Statement from AMA on the Supreme Court’s Decision in overturning Roe v. Wade

The Supreme Court’s Decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that lead to the ruling in overturning Roe v. Wade will put the health, and lives of many women of this nation in jeopardy.

Abortion bans will not stop abortions from happening, especially when a mother's life is in danger; it drives abortion seekers to states where they are legal, or they go underground to unlicensed operations, or some will even try self-abort. It will affect those of the most vulnerable, with many being the women of color. Instead of having safe environments where these decisions can be made with the consultation and support from medical professionals, it now becomes hospital administration and lawyers' decisions whether to support a patient or not. The decision is a travesty for our country and puts not just the physical health, but also the mental health of women at risk and their lives in danger.

AMA will continue to stand with women who are in need of healthcare services, and continues to advocate for health equity and racial justice for all.

"Yet, while it mourns a region's immense loss, it also celebrates the survival and resilience of the human spirit. Through its specificity of the Cambodian experience, Cambodian Rock Band touches upon the universality of our community's stories.
