The wines are listed in order of increasing price.

The wines in today's Pre-departure Offer are:

1. Château Palais Cardinal “La Rose de Palais Cardinal” Bordeaux rosé 2021. NEW to TOB.
The first of three wines in today's offer from Saint-Émilion Grand Cru producer Château Palais Cardinal (see below, #3 and #5).
It's incredibly rare to find a rosé as pristine and delicate as this. In warmer years Bordeaux rosé can end up a bit broad and hot but 2021 was perfect for the style and this is pale pink, feather-light, softly perfumed, with fragrant notes of wild strawberry, talcum, and blackcurrant, while the palate is dry, balanced, and dangerously drinkable.
Drink now to 2024.
Post-arrival price will be $21.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $17.95.

2. Château Vallon d'Arche Bordeaux blanc 2021. NEW VINTAGE.
Sauvignon Blanc/Sémillon blend (50/50).
2021 was a cool year and one of the best on recent record for the making of mountain stream-fresh whites, crisp and dry, delicately fruity with subtle notes of lemon and lime, juniper, and lemon grass. The body is light and vivacious and the refreshment factor is high.
Drink now to 2024.
Post-arrival price will be $22.95 per bottle . Today's pre-departure price is $18.95.

3. Château Haut-Boutisse Bordeaux red 2019. NEW to TOB.
53% Cabernet Franc, balance is Merlot.
This wine comes from the stables of Château Palais Cardinal in Saint-Émilion (Grand Cru producer, see below) where the house style is focused on elegance, which is why the Cabernet Franc proportion here is high to bring the balance and finesse it is celebrated for. But while the aromatics are focused and lifted, with ripe blackberry fruit at its core, the palate is firmly elegant with balance, soft tannins, good length and a smooth finish.
Drink now to 2025.
Post-arrival price will be $24.95 per bottle . Today's pre-departure price is $19.95.

4. Château Saint-Elme Bordeaux Supérieur red 2018. NEW to TOB.
95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Classic old school claret. I was surprised to learn this is only 5% Cabernet Franc because there is an earthy, leathery, woody charm that took me straight back to my first Bordeaux experiences in the early 1990s, which were dominated by the Cabernet-rich wines of the Médoc. Yes there is burly Merlot fruit at the heart of the aromatics but its savoury, minty-cigar box character puts the old school Bordeaux style well in front of the fruit. The palate is medium-full, polished smooth, round and almost quite rich in its gourmet attractiveness. A heavenly trip back to the way Bordeaux used to be and from a minuscule (3.5 hectares) vineyard, discovered on my last trip to Bordeaux in May. Highly recommended.
Drink now to 2025.
Post-arrival price will be $30.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $24.95.

5. Château Palais Cardinal Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red 2019. NEW to TOB.
23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, and balance is Merlot. From the deep sandy alluvial soils and gravels between the village of Saint-Émilion and the river Dordogne.
While we have already imported a shipment of their entry level Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, this is the first time we've got a small consignment of Ch. Palais Cardinal's top wine. The fruit is laser focused here in the dark berry spectrum, rich and deep but not at all jammy, fresh and tight with savoury notes of wood smoke, smoked ham and clove-y/oaky spice, while the tannin is forged with the finest tannins, gently gripping, and long. At the full end of medium bodied but so finely structured, tall and statuesque. The liquid embodiment of elegance.
Drink now to 2035+
Post-arrival price will be $60.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $49.95.

6. Château Lapelletrie Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red 2018. NEW vintage.
10% Cabernet Franc, and balance is Merlot. From the high limestone plateau above the village of Saint-Émilion.
The new vintage of Lapelletrie absolutely smashes it out of the park and is pretty much as close to perfection as a young wine can get. The aromatics jump out of the glass: powerful and pure, that earthy old school claret note again, graphite, oak, dark and intense blackberry, blueberry, and cassis, while the palate is gorgeously suave, juicy and elegant, mouth-filling but clean and finely textured. At the medium end of full-bodied but utterly satisfying to drink. An incredibly vivacious young wine with a long life ahead of it.
Drink now to 2035+.
Post-arrival price will be $66.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $54.95.

7. Château Lapelletrie Saint-Émilion Grand Cru red 2012. NEW vintage.
10% Cabernet Franc, and balance is Merlot. From the high limestone plateau above the village of Saint-Émilion.
And if the 2018 (see above, wine #6) was the essence of vigorous, powerful, youthful potential, the Lapelletrie 2012 (an earlier developing and less fruit forward year than 2018) is entering its mature prime right now: the vibrant youthful fruit mingles with secondary characteristics of library books and moroccan leather, forest undergrowth, autumn leaves, truffles and earth, while the palate is balanced and smooth, polished by time to a state of ultimate drinkability and approaching the zenith of what every great Bordeaux can achieve but almost no other wine region on Earth can match. There is nothing like aged Bordeaux and this wine is a pretty good demonstration of what the goal of ageing Bordeaux actually is. That said, this is no way near the end of its development either - it's only at the ten-year mark now - and has at least another 5 years to run and improve on an already very beautiful position. Decant this wine if you can.
Drink now to 2028+
Post-arrival price will be $72.95 per bottle. Today's pre-departure price is $59.95.
