BOARDING NEWSLETTER
Kia ora whānau and welcome back to our week 8 of Term 2 boarding newsletter. It’s been a chilly week with lots of early morning ground frost, but the boys have remained in good spirits and remain energetic and upbeat, which is great to see.
The Week So Far

There have been lots of interesting things happening this week, week 8 as you can see from the many photos in this week’s newsletter.

Many thanks to staff member Mike Smith, for his excellent weekly photos of the College buildings and surroundings. Mike has a keen photographic eye and talent.

In Durham with the Junior dorms, we have had a big reset with bed making and general tidiness after some dubious recent performances. The boys have embraced this new drive and the dorms have been much better this week.  Staff are conducting a daily check by morning tea and boys receive 2 ticks, 1 for making their beds and the other for ensuring their area is neat and tidy. These improved standards will be expected to be maintained throughout the remining weeks.  Any drop-in standards will result in loss of offsite leave. We hope to be able to take the boys out on an end of term trip in the next couple of weeks and we have tied in dorm standards with attendance on these reward trips.

After meeting with our Boarding student council last week, we have been steadily working through some of the action points on this list and I will be giving the 5 boys an update before the end of term on progress made, so that they can share this with their respective year groups.

As mentioned last week in our newsletter about food in the hostel, we have included some pictures of some of the lovely meals & food served to the boys and staff this week. This suggestion was made by the Boarding Council. Again, I must reiterate, there should be no need for parents to be giving their boys lots of weekly extra money for them to buy fast food.

I enjoyed seeing so many of our boarders out representing the College on rugby club day last Saturday and I hope to be able to watch more of our boy’s playing hockey, football and basketball in the coming weeks. It is brilliant to see the commitment and passion, so many of our boarders have for their sport and exercise.

Hopefully the myriad of pictures included in this week’s newsletter give you a snapshot of the multitude of things happening around the place. We hope that you are all enjoying the Matariki public holiday and the long weekend with your boys. Wherever you are, have a fabulous weekend - Dai and the boarding team.

On Sunday, the boarders began their week with a special Mass with Fr Allan, celebrating the Feast of Corpus Christi. The boys took part in the blessing of the Eucharist, followed by a procession around the Chapel.
A handful of year 10 boarders playing some basketball after school.
Teriyaki beef rice bowl.
Carbonara pasta.
Beef brisket with some chippies!
Marmalade glazed ham. These are just some of the delicious meals we've had this week!
Year 9 boarders, Ben Gluyas, Rocco von Ah and Harry Boyce, making the most of being able to study in the COE after school.
Ryan Wards piece of art!
Tuesdays graffiti session went well! we're all amazed by the work they have done, it's great to see the boys learn new skills and get creative. We know the boys made the most of their classes with Nick and next week is their final session, Nick is coming back to give the boys some extra time to complete their final presentation piece.
Yoga with Cushla on a Wednesday we saw the boys doing some great stretches.
