Kia Ora Whanau,
I’m going to say it again….. where are all these weeks going? It only seems like yesterday that I was penning some thoughts for the newsletter. It has been another busy week at school with Wakatipu zone swimming sports, garden to table, ice skating, St John’s first aide sessions, and 2 Raw cooking demonstrations for Yr ⅞.
If you have been following the news, schools in New Zealand have been struggling with the disruptions of widespread sickness. At QPS we have been juggling a large number of student absences and staff illnesses. The different bugs that seem to be doing the rounds are quite nasty and keep people at home for a number of days. I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the staff at school and our relief teachers who have been incredibly flexible with the changing dynamics. I am proud of the team here as we have managed to keep normality at school. Please look after yourselves and if your child is unwell please keep them home.
It was great to see the lights turned on at Coronet Peak last night for night skiing. I enjoyed having a few runs before it got too cold and I had to retreat home for my hot soup. There have been emails sent home this week from class teachers reminding parents to sign up for ski camps. For Yr 5-8 can you please urgently sign your child up if you would like them to attend one of the snow sports weeks. The spaces are limited and they are filling up quickly. The Yr ¾ camp has booked out and we have been able to negotiate another week to allow for this overflow. We will let you know when this is available on the website for you to book.
Thank you to the parents who took the time to give feedback on our Behaviour Management Plan. This is going to the Board Meeting tonight and we are hoping to have a finalised document ready to share next week. Mrs Bell and Miss Saville will complete the prize draw next week and post this on Facebook.
I am looking forward to having a day off tomorrow to reflect on Matariki. I will be gathered with my family, having some Kai and remembering people who I have loved and lost. This will include trying to beat the rush to get a carpark up the mountain. Whatever you are doing this weekend please take time to spend with the family and look after yourself.
