Kinning* through shared learning.

Kinship Plot is a community of learning and practice, which means embracing an ongoing process of listening, reading, dialoguing, reflecting, and acting. Learning from indigenous and non-Western wisdom is one of our priorities, especially given the robust integration of land, community, and identity. Randy Woodley, in his recent Indigenous Theology and the Western Worldview, provides a good example:

*Kinning is kinship in action

"Generally, Indigenous folks understand ourselves as part of the land. We understand ourselves as primarily communal, and this is inclusive of land. We understand truth through narrative and instinctively find our place in the story and we activate toward that truth. Generally, Western folks understanding themselves apart from or distinct from the land. They understand themselves primarily individually. They understand truth through facts and propositions. They instinctively separate themselves from the story for "objectivity's" sake and they divide reality."

Kinning through shared produce.

Thyme to Heal begins in a few days! For this project, we are collaborating with several Charlotte gardeners who are sharing their abundance of homegrown fruits, vegetables, and herbs as well as lived knowledge about gardening and nutrition with residents at the Center for Women work release prison. We will offer field trips to local farms and community gardens, and most importantly: friendship, connection, and community!

We are 30% toward our fundraising goal and joyfully moving forward with the project at a small scale, but we will expand as donations and capacity allow.

Kinning through shared meals.

We believe eating together is one of the most powerful ways to forge kinship. On July 9, we'll be hosting our first kinship dinner of the summer, and we would love for you to join us for this bring-and-share meal and table discussion in the Vander Lugt backyard in Charlotte. The food theme for this dinner is anything you can put in a pita, and the discussion theme is kinship as resonant relationships. Anyone is welcome, but these dinners are best suited for adults and kids ages 14+.

Sign up here!
May your summer be filled with joyful kinning and unexpected relationships!
