Happy Juneteenth!
June 19th or “Juneteenth” is a very important day in African American history. Juneteenth, or “Freedom Day” is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
This holiday is considered the “longest running African-American holiday” and has been called “America’s second Independence Day.” It was on June 19, 1865, that Union soldiers, led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger, landed in Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that all slaves were free.
Diaper Bank Drive ends Sun
Our church is participating in a diaper drive for the non-profit, Bundles for Hope. This special organization seeks to support young families in need with the expensive costs associated with diapers. Until the end of June, we are accepting diapers all ages, especially for Newborns, 5’s, 6’s, and pullups. We are also accepting baby wipes and period products.
Prayers for Annual Conference
Please keep Donna Pridmore (lay representative for PGUMC) and Pastor Matt in your prayers as they travel to Huntsville this week for the North Alabama Conference of the UMC, June 22-24. The theme this year is, “Disciples Celebrating Discipleship”, with guest preacher, Bishop David Graves from the Alabama-West Florida and South Georgia Conferences.
