What's happening at the Community Foundation - Summer Edition!
The Community Foundation has had quite a busy first half of 2022. It feels as if we blinked, and it's officially summer. Summertime in The Community Foundation office can be quiet as staff take time off for vacations and training, but even with the time away, we are working hard to enhance the quality of life in our community. We'd love to share a little bit of what's happening this summer with you.
Welcome Joel and Rachel
The Community Foundation welcomed two new staff members last month. Joel Brumley is the Foundation's newest program officer and will work closely with nonprofit organizations partnering with The Community Foundation. Rachel Spodek serves as the communications administrator. Rachel oversees gift entry for The Community Foundation and will support other external communications. This summer, Joel and Rachel are getting to know the Foundation and their new roles.
Preparing for Kelly's Resignation
In April, Kelly K. Shrock announced her planned resignation from The Community Foundation. Later this summer, Kelly will relocate with her family to Iowa. Following a Board-approved succession plan, a search committee has begun the process of identifying the next Foundation leader. This summer, Kelly is getting her files in order and reaching out to donors, colleagues, and friends before her final day at the Foundation – August 5.
Grants and Scholarships
The Community Foundation continues to award grants and scholarships to enhance the quality of life in Muncie and Delaware County. To date, $2.1 million has been granted into the community. Scholarship payments for the 2022-2023 school year will go out later this month, with more than $200,000 awarded. Watch our social media for the final scholarship announcements and new Grants in Action this summer.
Launching the Nonprofit Support Network

The Nonprofit Support Network, a supporting organization of The Community Foundation, officially launched earlier this year. Former program officer Carly Acree-King took the role of executive director (titled Relationship and Resource Director) on May 1. This summer, the organization hosted its first training, Developing Major Gifts, presented by IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy's The Fund Raising School. Representatives of more than 20 local organizations participated in the training. Watch for more programs and resources from the Nonprofit Support Network soon.
