Welcoming Borealis: the Canadian Dataverse Repository (June 23, 2022)
Scholars Portal Dataverse has been renamed Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository / le dépôt Dataverse canadien. It is the same wonderful service, simply under a new banner. The name was chosen because it "evokes connections to the Canadian landscape and reflects the growth into a national service used by more than 60 academic libraries and research institutions across Canada". This change is planned to go live on June 23rd, 2022 at borealisdata.ca. Here at Lakehead, we have an instance of dataverse which is itself contained within Borealis' infrastructure: Lakehead Dataverse. If you have any questions, or interest in depositing in Lakehead Dataverse, please reach out to Nicole Stradiotto, Scholarly Communications and Data Services Librarian at nstradio@lakeheadu.ca

eFIN Announcement
Research Accounting is excited to announce a new feature from Cayuse Romeo.  Each Active Romeo file will display a link to your Datatel Colleague financial information.  eFIN offers a flexible financial reporting system that will allow you to select the start and end dates of the report to fulfil your specific reporting needs.   It will also provide some additional information on expenditures and purchase orders that is not currently available in My Budget. Our eFIN product will produce the financial information for the Annual Tri-Agency Statement of Account (Form 300) and will assist my team with the preparation of annual reports. Due to the demands of year-end and the Tri-Agency annual reporting, training sessions will be deferred until late July.  Please explore the new product at your leisure. You will find that it is very easy to navigate. To aid you in your use of eFIN, you will find an eFIN User Guide and video on the Research & Trust Accounting websiteIf you have questions on accessing Romeo, please contact Bonnie Knott at bknott@lakeheadu.ca.  If you have questions regarding missing account numbers or other missing information, please contact me at mross@lakeheadu.ca.  Please explore the new product but hold your questions related to navigation until after July 15th when the Research Accounting team has completed year-end.  Hoping you enjoy this new feature.

MyBudgets Reminder – Two Fiscal Years Open
The University’s year end is April 30, 2022. (May 1, 2021 to April 30, 2022).  There are now two fiscal years open (2021/2022 & 2022/2023).  To determine the unspent balance in your research account you will need to look at both fiscal years and combine the activity.  You can change the fiscal year by selecting the Fiscal Year at the top of the screen and selecting GO. You will need to continue to do this until the year-end process is complete and the unspent balance for April 30, 2022 is transferred forward to the new year.  This transfer of the unspent balance  will occur in early July 2022.  The purchase order information will not carry forward to the new year until the system close is completed.  The system close will occur after the University Board approves the Financial Statements in October.  Contact Margot Ross at mross@lakeheadu.ca if you have any questions.
