Yesterday, we expressed gratitude to the Choir and
Sandy Kleisner as they concluded their choir year.
There will be soloists and smaller singing groupings during the summer months.
If you have a musical talent to share for worship, please speak with Sandy.

The Overview

Diane Meade
Those who attended the Art Show reception Friday evening noted the absence of founder and long-time organizer of the show, Charlie Meade. He was home with his wife, Diane, former Christian Education Director here at our church. Diane has come home from a hospital stay and the doctors are telling us that she is entering the last stage of her earthly life.
Please keep Diane, Charlie, and their entire family in your prayers.

17th Annual Art at the Meetinghouse
Art Show & Sale
A large success!!

This past Friday through Sunday, the Church organized and hosted once again this popular event.

It included a wonderful, delicious, and well-attended reception Friday evening
many people viewed the art over the 3 days and the sale of 20 pieces!
We do not have the net figures yet, but we are very pleased.

Thank you to the Organizing Committee, headed by Charlie Meade and including Dale Pinchbeck, Vail Barrett, and David Peters. Special thanks to the reception team of Susan Zappulla-Peters, Jeanne Steers, Stephanie Pitman, and Morgan Smith!

Appreciation
As I mentioned yesterday, I so appreciate the choir members who gathered each Sunday for rehearsal and singing during worship. I am so proud of our choir, for their dedication and the pleasing sound that they produce. This gratitude includes Sandy as our Minister of Music.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Volunteer(s) Needed

We are looking for a person(s) who would be willing to prep and paint the ceiling in the balcony area near the organ. We have the paint,  brushes, and drop cloths.
If you are willing to do this, please speak with Rev. Peters.

Both/And in an Either/Or World

Anthony Robinson

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. - 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NRSV)

Every now and again someone says, “If only we were like the early church, when everyone was full of faith and lived in total harmony.” I suggest reading the New Testament’s letters about actual early churches. Paul’s letters to the Corinthians will do. He wrote to a quarreling, contentious congregation. He cautioned against spiritual arrogance, suggesting to those who thought themselves as the enlightened that though “knowledge puffs up, love builds up.”

Paul affirmed a two-sided truth: individual gifts and their expression are really important … and the life of the group, the community or congregation, is really important too. It’s not either the sacred individual or the sacred community; it’s both/and.

In writing—“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit”—Paul affirmed that each and every person in the congregation is given a gift of the Spirit. Amazing! No one is gift-less, unimportant, or less than. In writing—“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit”—Paul reminds us that individual gifts and their expression aren’t the point. The point is a “common good,” building up the church and its witness to God.

When our kids were teenagers we affirmed a similar two-sided truth: “You are special, unique and important; and you are part of a family.”

Ponder the amazing gifts of the Spirit given to those in your life. Imagine the possibilities when all are invited to use their gifts to build up the church, to build up the community. “To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

Prayer

Pour out your Spirit upon us, O God. Remind those who think too little of themselves of the gift you have given them; remind those who think too much of themselves of the common good all gifts are meant to serve. Amen.

Cash 4 Causes Card Program
awakens from the Pandemic Slumber...

The popular program is back with a new coordinator
Susan Zappulla-Peters (860-355-8830 -
zappullapeters@mac.com)
and an emphasis on the local grocery stores.

It is hoped that you would consider getting in the habit, like some,
to purchase your cards on a monthly basis.

NEW: The second Sunday of each Month will be Card Ordering Sunday.

We would like to have a set day so it is easy to remember to order
and easy for the processing...

The concept is simple.
- You buy the card at the face value (ex. $100) and we purchase a cash card from the store.
- They charge approx. 5% less and the church keeps the difference.
- You spend the same amount, but by using the card, your Church gets a 5% benefit!!

We work primarily with Stop & Shop, Big Y and Shop Rite cards

Contact Susan directly or speak with her on Sundays after worship.
She may have a few extra cards for the different stores with her.
