Practice Groups

As an evidence-informed model, NCSS offers numerous professional development opportunities for START team members. One such example are START Practice Groups.

Practice Groups are national communities within the START Network organized around START team roles, professional disciplines, and specific topics of interest. Each group is facilitated by NCSS clinical staff and occasionally feature invited speakers and special guests. Standing, role specific practice groups meet monthly or bi-monthly. These include: Clinical Directors, Program Directors, Certified Programs, Medical Directors, Resource Center Directors, Clinical Team Leaders, and Therapeutic Coaching. NCSS also offers topic-specific practice groups which include: Children’s/Special Topics. Previous topics have included Networking and Linkages, Trauma-Informed Care, Positive Supports, Gender Identity, and Cultural Competency. Practice Groups offer the opportunity to not only sharpen START practices, but to expand our understanding of the intersection of disability and multiple identities.
