Dear <<First Name>>,

Hi Everyone,

I bet that some of you are STILL! wondering: “where are the Dolphins, which have arrived in Eastbourne”?

Eastbourne has a World First

Two Refill Stations have arrived in our town in the form of Dolphins. The company that makes them is Our Only World, based in Polzeath, Cornwall. These are the first ever sold in the whole world and we are excited!

These are going to be installed in our town to help grow our network of about 70 refill stations. We are setting up the installation dates for these and for a whole new collection to appear across our town. We are setting up our installations with a new plumbing company, so it is taking a little longer than planned!....

Refill

One Refill Station will be set up near the Tourist Information Centre and the other will be set up along “Spring Water Way” which is the 16 kilometre-long string of refill stations all the way along our seafront ~ from Sovereign Harbour Retail Park to the East as far as the Birling Gap National Trust visitors centre to the West ~ this was also a first for us: the first NT property to host a refill station!

On 16th June was our national "Refill Day". Please make a point of using at least one refill station to top up your drinking bottle. Remember that there is no need ever to buy a single-use plastic bottle of water from a shop.

Our Aviva Community Fundraiser has surpassed our target of  £1500 (£1560 in total)as a contribution for a Refill Station in Shinewater Park. We now have to try to find a location nearby.
Special Summer Offer
We have 7 different educational books for sale which would make fabulous summer holiday gifts for any young person in the Primary school age group. They are beautifully illustrated. They are written by Ellie Jackson and are each about a creature that suffers but is then saved from environmental incidents.
Each book costs £8.

This offer is to buy 4 books and get the 5th one FREE. £32 instead of £40!

All profits come to Plastic Free Eastbourne. They will be on show at all of our publicity stall events, starting with the Turing Pride event on 30th June.
Eastbourne Spring Water
Festival
Our “Eastbourne Spring Water Festival 22” ~Celebrating Water ~ has now come to an end. There were many events this year ~ over 30, compared to 20 last year. The additional ones included ~

~ Some film shows of “River” in the Towner, along with a short by Titan 360 ~ our Media Partners ~ of last year's beach clean. The Towner also hosted a creative art activity called “A (un)Natural History: Plastics” ~ an event for families.

~ Refill Quest: an adventure to help aliens find their planet (in Eastbourne using a route from the station to the seafront). This is another family event and you can play this game anytime. This QR code will get you to it.
“The Sea” competition has ended, winners have been chosen, and prizes will be awarded!

A very popular Eco-Fair took place on Western Lawns with a variety of eco-aware stalls to raise the importance of making efforts to heal our Planet.

A fundraising concert took place in the Crown and Anchor, which is where our Festival Feast took place earlier in the Festival.

A conference called “Blue Planet @ Eastbourne” at the Lansdowne Hotel Conference Centre. This was hosted by Plastic Free Eastbourne in conjunction with United Nations Association Climate and Oceans. This was also streamed via Facebook and participants from around the world took part via a Zoom link. Recordings are going to become available for those of you who were not able to attend.

“Promenade”: this is an Arts Exhibition. This year there are 7 hotels along the seafront where the works of 19 local artists are on show: Hydro, Lansdowne, Cumberland, View, West Rock, The Cumberland, and East Beach. This exhibition runs until 12th September.

Yoga on the Beach by Gymanda

Run Wednesdays ran all along our Spring Water Way from Birling Gap National Trust Visitors Centre to Defiant Sports Inclusion Hub in Sovereign Harbour Retail Park ~ visiting our Refill Stations along the route.
Thank you to all of our sponsors and benefactors who helped to support this Festival. A full list will be published later.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This poster is from our most recent ally ~ The Green Opera Company. They are hoping to offer an opera as part of our Eastbourne Spring Water Festival next year. Please support this event in August if you can. Please note: the Beach Deck Café is past The Redoubt by Treasure Island.
The Opera is coming to town!

We are already planning next year's Eastbourne Spring Water Festival: Friday 12th May to Sunday 21st May 2023

We are in discussions with The Green Opera Company in London. We are collaborating with them to perform an opera here as part of our Festival over several days.

GREEN OPERA
You will see that their ethos matches our own here at Plastic Free Eastbourne!

They are coming to carry out a beach clean on Sunday 7th August 2 pm start. If YOU would like to join in and, at the same time, get to know the Company, please meet at the Beach Deck Café opposite Beach number 36 (between Bandstand and Pier).

Other groups are also preparing to participate in next year's Festival. If YOU wish to take part, please get in touch with us.

Biomass Plastics
We are awaiting some dates from Caroline Ansell for pursuing this campaign. Meanwhile, our petition is gathering more signatures from local participants.

Please watch this space.
Eastbourne Carnival
Eastbourne Carnival took place on Saturday 4th June 2022. Plastic Free Eastbourne took part. Christina Kearley led our group, which included a group of Eco-Warriors from “Parkland Federation” Primary School. They made musical instruments from single-use plastics and played them as they marched. Well done to all participants, especially to the children ~ the carnival covered quite a long distance!

The filming was carried out by our Media Partner Titan360. If you want to watch just our group please go to minute 17:00.

Note: one big improvement was the fantastic decorations that all the floats used ~ following the Festival Conditions: no balloons ~ only one group used balloons. Next year: please let us see NONE AT ALL!
Planning future activities

We need and are still searching for volunteers for the following events where we will be using our Publicity Stall.

1.    2nd July: Shinewater Fun Day 12 pm to 4 pm
2.    29th, 30th, 31st July: Eastbourne Eco-Festival. We have been invited to be part of this festival with our publicity stall. We need several volunteers each day to help run it ~ in Prince's Park. We have one volunteer already who will erect and dismantle the stall. In addition, we have had one more volunteer to help. Please step forward!

3.    26th to 29th August: Vintage Festival in Gildredge Park
4.    7th October: EBC Carbon Neutral event in the Welcome Centre
If YOU want to volunteer for any of these, please email plasticfreeeastbourne@gmail.com
