“It’s up to you,” James Baldwin warned. “As long as you think you’re white, there is no hope for you. As long as you think you’re white, I’m going to be forced to think I’m Black.” We have yet to resolve this—but Baldwin had the courage to offer a roadmap, a way to build a better future. He believed that if we can find ways to stop fearing difference, to see what we all have in common, to listen and even love each other, then “we can all become better than we are.” He used his art to open minds and change lives; our film has the same goal. Now, it’s up to us.
