The tradition of the 3rd of July Pops Concert lives on except its getting bigger and better!

Sunday, July 3, at the San Angelo River Stage, come celebrate Independence Day in style up close and personal. Here are some of the features:

The inaugural Sonny Cleere’s Ice Cream Party will be on the River Stage floor in front of the stage. Arctic N7 Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream will be serving complimentary peach ice cream to our VIP section.

The ice cream tradition was started by Sonny Cleere, the Voice of the San Angelo Central Bobcats. Sonny invited friends and family over to his house in Santa Rita immediately following the traditional July 3 Pops Concert. In memory of Sonny, who passed away last year, we are bringing the party to the River Stage.

Complimentary hamburgers and hotdogs will also be served.

The fireworks this year are designed and orchestrated by “Fly.” That’s the call sign for Greg Schatt our pyro guy who for years has designed the opening pyro sequences for the San Angelo Rodeo. Fly has a larger canvas now — the entire night sky above Downtown San Angelo.

Using both Oakes Street and Celebration Bridge as his launching pads, this fireworks show will be larger than last year’s as fireworks will explode over the Concho River to music — the 1812 Overture performed by the San Angelo Community Band. Cannons from Fort Concho, positioned across the river from the stage, will accompany the fireworks display. Fireworks will begin exactly at 9:05 p.m., which is 15 minutes after official sunset.
 

Opening the show will be Alma Mariachi Mexicana, a very popular San Angelo music ensemble. The San Angelo Community Band performs next with the fireworks display as the finale of the band’s set. After the fireworks, we take a 15 minute intermission to set-up the stage for the 10-piece Chicago Tribute Authority band.

CTA is a rock band with a horn section that will perform the all-time popular and timeless music of the rock band Chicago!
 The VIP area will be gated off from the rest of the crowded River Stage with its own beer and wine bar and rest room facilities. Each table will be amazingly decorated by San Angelo’s own Besos Events.
