The Fempreneur Issue

Calling All Fempreneurs!

Being an entrepreneur and running your own business is about the destination — name recognition, a successful product, profitability, maybe even an IPO — but it’s also about the journey. And no one knows that better than the female entrepreneurs in our Salon community.

We didn’t realize there were so many incredible women at The Salon leading startups, running local businesses, and generally being boss babes until we held our Gathering Series For Entrepreneurs. It was so exciting to meet women across diverse industries doing amazing things in Pittsburgh.

Throughout the series, we made genuine connections with women we had never met, swapped phone numbers and email addresses, gained new insights, and were wowed by the awesome companies everyone is spearheading. There was so much positive energy at every session, we knew we couldn’t let a good thing go to waste.

So, we’re thrilled to announce we’re transforming our three-week entrepreneur series into a full-time gig. Introducing our Fempreneur Monthly Gathering in partnership with Miror and its founder, CEO, and boss babe Cassie Guerin. Starting July 20, we’ll meet at The Salon once per month with fellow women entrepreneurs and business leaders carving out a space in The Steel City. Mark your calendar, and see you there!

Until next week,
—Meredith

Creating A Community For Women Entrepreneurs

We’re so happy that so many of you attended one or more sessions of our Gathering For Entrepreneurs Series in May and June. It was a hit — and we had so much fun bringing female entrepreneurs together — that we’re keeping the momentum going with a monthly Fempreneur Gathering Series in partnership with Miror

At our Fempreneur Gathering, ‘female entrepreneur’ is a loose term. Of course, we invite women who own a business to join. But we also want to encourage those of you who don’t run your own business but are thinking about it, are considering turning your side hustle into something more, are consulting on your own, or simply want to know what running a company is like to come see what our fempreneur community is all about.

Help us kick off this exciting new monthly series at The Salon on July 20 and get ready for collective conversation, insight into the journeys of fellow female entrepreneurs, networking opportunities, and genuine connection.

A word from Salon member and founder + CEO of Miror Cassie Guerin:

“It’s exciting to learn about the different businesses people have and the different skill sets that we each bring to the table. We’re going to continue our Fempreneur Gathering Series on a monthly basis because it’s really nice to meet with other people who get what it’s like to own and run your own business — there’s also an information skill-sharing aspect to it, too.

At each gathering, we’ll introduce and get to know each other and learn about the business each woman runs or wants to run. Every session has a topic that’s related to owning a business but the topic is really just a vehicle to connect. The topics are there, but what’s so great is it always turns into organic conversations. We discuss the topic as a group, but we also have the chance to break into diads, so you get to know one person pretty well — and the diads are always switching up.

Some of the women who have met through the group are connecting outside of it, too — getting drinks before the gathering or dinner afterward. One woman brought in her product for us to sample, and another is inviting us to her house. This isn’t just about learning about your businesses, it’s also about connecting with people in a similar place.

And the group is truly diverse. There are women who have been running their businesses for 10+ years and there are women who are getting ready to launch their products. It’s also intergenerational — we have people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 70s in the group. We’re all connected by the fact that we were celebrating wins as well as navigating disappointment and challenges that come with being an entrepreneur — specifically as a woman.

We’re eager to meet more of you! We want to continue the community but grow it to include more female entrepreneurs. We’ve had so much fun, we want to know who the other women in The Salon are that are on this journey. We’re learning how to help each other and we have something to offer other female entrepreneurs — we’d love for others to bring their knowledge and expertise to the community as well.”
