Workshop: Sharing Good Practice in Assessing Applications
Wednesday 20th July 12.00 -2.00pm @ Brewin Dolphin, 9 Colmore Row, Birmingham, B3 2BJ
Foundations are set up for many different reasons and to support a wide range of causes. Some are run entirely by volunteer trustees, others have one or two members of staff and some have large teams to help trustees make decisions about how to use their funding. Some work in a small local area, or only support individuals, while others support organisations all over the UK and internationally. Clearly these differences mean foundations do things in different ways. However, the aims in grant-making are very similar – funder want to reach and support good organisations that are making a difference and to do this in a way that makes the best possible use of both our time and resources and those of funders and the organisations/groups that approach funders.
The WMFN has a diverse membership and the workshop is an opportunity for funders to share and reflect on current practice using an EDI lens in assessing and refusing applications and look at how this might be developed and improved.
- NLCF – presentation of good practice based on consultation, feedback from applicants and testing out different practice methods on promoting funding programmes, communication methods and assessing applications and rejecting applications – learning from the larger strategic programmes and reaching communities and A4A – smaller programme.
- HoECF – presentation on its practice, grantee feedback and learning from its range of small grants programmes in the West Midlands
- Birmingham Community Matters (BCM) – Presentation on the experience of local neighbourhood groups, micro/grassroots community groups on accessing funding.
- Get Grants – Presentation on the experience of applicants on making applications, funder communications and assessment processes including being unsuccessful.
