Advertorial on behalf of our Platinum Partner MSD Animal Health

How vaccines work and what happens at a cellular level in the body in order to generate protective antibodies and T-cells is a subject which is often labelled complex and mysterious.  However, it’s a captivating topic, and with the recent explosion of public interest in immunology and vaccinology as a result of the COVID-19 vaccine program, many veterinary clients are keen to learn more about the types of vaccine used in their pets and how they work.

MSD Animal Health is not only proud to sponsor the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines Group’s excellent educational material but we also have our own in-house resources and are pleased to be able to share the following 3D animation which helps explain - in a visually arresting way - what happens at a cellular level when we vaccinate in order to protect a client’s dog against the threat of diseases like distemper, parvovirosis or leptospirosis.

Meet the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines Group (VGG)

A team of experts from around the world focused on providing evidence-based scientific advice to the global veterinary profession on optimum vaccination practice for dogs and cats

Vaccination is a fundamentally important element of veterinary practice and an area which has seen changes in recommendations in recent years. The VGG aims to provide evidence-based advice and clarity to companion animal veterinarians through creating resources such as:
  • A Scholarship for veterinary students into an aspect of small companion animal infectious disease, clinical vaccinology or immunology in memory of the VGG’s inspirational founder, the late Emeritus Professor Michael Day.
  • An online multi-module course on vaccines and vaccination practice, available free of charge to WSAVA members on the WSAVA Academy.
