June 2022

As June comes to a close, I've been reflecting on how important it is to take care of ourselves and others. This means being aware of our own physical and mental well-being as well as checking in on those around us.

Summer is a great time to socialize and is always busy since schools are out for vacation. However, that can mean additional stress and worry as schedules get crowded and the weather gets warmer. I find that I'm extremely busy this time of year, and it is crucial to carve out moments to check in with myself.

This past month, I have been focusing heavily on resilience and triangulation in family systems and family therapy. You can read more about my thoughts on these two topics in my June blog posts, which are rounded up for you below.

I am also writing a two-part blog series this month on how the changing landscape of drug use in the United States and globally is affecting substance use disorder in teens. Part One is already up, and Part Two will be posted on Sunday!

This term is also central to research on substance use disorder and treatment and helps us grasp some of the nuances of how family systems influence therapeutic measures toward recovery.

One of the more interesting concepts I have come across recently in the realm of family systems theory is family resilience.

Deriving from the concept of resilience more broadly and applying multilevel systems theory to the structure of the family, the notion of a family as resilient – or of resilience being a crucial property of the family system – is extremely useful in the field of trauma research and treatment.

This blog looks at this concept and how we can make use of it as therapists and coaches.

Laws and opinions about cannabis have changed dramatically in the last few years. More people have begun to use cannabis to manage their mental health conditions or even alleviate physical pain.

However, there is a danger in purchasing types of cannabis, such as the controversial delta-8 THC, which is being banned in many states.
