July news...

"Anniversary" - watercolor on Yupo, will be in the Ohio Watercolor Society's "Watercolor Ohio 2022 - 45th Annual Juried Exhibition" Riffe Gallery Columbus, OH   (Open Reception on July 30 from 1-4pm and the exhibition ends Oct. 7, 2022.)
*This portrait of my husband, Gary, was inspired of last year's anniversary trip to Nashville, TN.  This wine bar was on the top-level over-looking the crazy busy activity on a Nashville weekend. We had actually been out on the terrace until a quick/heavy rain shower blasted through and pushed us inside to a comfortable lounge inside for some people-watching in this interesting architectural space.
**As part of the exhibition, the Ohio Art's Council chose me as one of the artists for part of their programming.... I will be doing a live zoom talk on Sept. 21st (my birthday!) More news on that in August!
***A little birdie informed me that this piece has won an award in this show (how exciting!) Because of an award ( the V.O. Baker Award), it will automatically be put into the state-wide traveling show, which I'll post the itinerary for at a later time.

 "Hidden" - watercolor on yupo - 7.75"x17" - 2020

 "Hermon Woodland" - acrylic on panel - 22"x31" - 2021
These two pieces will be showing at the Rosewood Arts Center, "28th Annual The View Juried Landscape Exhibition", Kettering OH June 27– July 29, 2022. The Open Reception will be on July 2nd and although I will be headed south that day, it will be in an airplane so I'll be unable to attend.

"Cooler Weather" - watercolor on Yupo, continues on in the TFAS 100+5: Juried Regional Exhibition (linked for viewing of the virtual show), held at the University of Toledo Department of Art at the Center for the Visual Arts (CVA) Toledo, OH (June 17th – August 6th, 2022)

*The artwork which accrues the most votes will receive the Community Choice Award... So if you'd like to "throw me a bone"...
Vote for: Cooler Weather ---------->HERE The deadline to submit your vote is July 7, 11:59 pm, 2022

My parents, LOL, have been accepted into the Ohio State Fair Cox Fine Arts Center Juried Exhibition: July 27-August 6 Exhibition hours 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Titled:  "Hey Mom, Send me a Selfie for my New Phone" and "Hey Dad, Send me a Selfie for my New Phone"... they are already catching some attention!  With pictures taken in an elevator from 2018... I benefitted from the tight quarters. I always loved the pictures but wasn't sure when or how I'd use them.  In this VIDEO you'll see that it was long enough that Dad didn't remember me taking them.  And the story is... that I started working on Mom's... then invited her to see what I was doing to see if she was going to approve of this adventure (and she did, whew).  We both kept it a secret about painting Dad's (because he's modeled in a fun piece before), but Mom didn't see it finished until the video's big reveal.  Dad, you are right... "we're gonna be famous"... because you've already netted an honorable mention in www.Artreprenuer.com 's "Uncommon Portraits" Open Call!
I hope this will inspire you to change some of the contact profile pictures on your phone :D
Accepted into the Engage Art "Engage International Contest", and have advanced to semi-finalist (less than 1 in 3 Visual Arts submissions have earned the Semi-Finalist distinction, only 190 out of 700) Let's see if I can go further??
And lastly... my darling "Riverbend" has made it into the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society 2022 Member show!  This is it's last show because it has sold to a very happy collector.  I only entered this show (having literally just joined the society) because it was soley online and paintings didn't have to be for sale. This piece has been my pride and joy... winning awards in 6 shows, accepted in 7 out of 8.... but the eighth show one of it's sister's was accepted instead  (and it's an International show!!!) so isn't that a fine validation for my work in acrylic?!!   MORE TO COME!

A Refresher... Who is this Jen artist chic?

Growing up on a ‘dead end’ road in the county; NWOhio-native artist, Jennifer Sowders, grew up spending a lot of time studying nature and it’s indelible thread is noted within her body of work.

Jennifer is a 1994 BFA graduate from the Columbus College of Art and Design. She is a Signature member and Trustee in the Ohio Watercolor Society, Associate of The National Watercolor, American Watercolor and National Oil & Acrylic Painters' Societies; on the board of the Fostoria Area Arts Council, member of the Ohio Art League and is in several N.W. Ohio arts groups.

She gained entrance into the National Watercolor Society’s 2020 “50 Stars” Exhibition, which was quite an honor as two artworks were chosen from each state-level watercolor society to represent their state. In 2021 Jennifer won a (National) Pentel of America’s Artist Spotlight and a National Bryn Du Award. In August of 2022, she'll appear in the Artists Magazine “AcrylicWorks 9: The Best of Acrylic”, she will have a page feature and an Honorable Mention Award.
She is currently represented by the Toledo Museum of Art's "Collector Corner".

Jennifer opens up her Fostoria, Ohio studio and gallery space: MONgallery and Art Studio, every MONday to visitors. She coined MON to represent “Middle Of Nowhere” because of her rural location where she lives with husband, Gary and has 3 sons.

Til' next time...

Beyond art, I like gardening and also making desserts! I do my best to bake goodies for visitors on MONdays when I'm open  from 9am - 6pm
