Reports from Schools Champs, NEGP and Parkrun
There was excitement and drama at the regions schools county championships on Saturday, with many of Blyth’s young athletes in action.

3 athletes were participating in the Durham Champs at Jarrow, with Hannah Wilson taking victory in the 200m, with Hollie-Anne Sudder an excellent 2nd. Millie Wilkinson was in a loaded 100m, where she secured an excellent win. All 3 now progress to Intercounties next week.

Meanwhile at Hexham, Lauren and Niamh took to the track in the 800m in very tricky windy conditions, with Lauren taking 2nd place and progressing to Intercounties, with Niamh 5th as she earned her Northumberland hoodie. Senna Gorvett showed great composure to dominate the high jump competition, whilst Sadie and Emily took 1st and 2nd in the long jump, adapting well to the strong headwind.

The hurdles proved extremely challenging  for all our athletes with 40mph guts blowing directly into the athletes faces. Luke Pichler took 1st in the junior boys hurdles, with Millie Train 2nd in the intermediate girls hurdles. There was drama in the junior girls heats, with Emily, Senna and Isla all having issues with starts or stride patterns thanks to the wind. The organisers took the decision to reverse the direction for the finals, so athletes were able to run the wrong way down the straight giving them a tailwind. In the final Senna scored a PB to take the win ahead of Emily. Millie took another 2nd place in the long jump, whilst Luke was in fine form to take the high jump win.

Back on track, Maya Turner was competing outdoors for the first time in nearly 3 years, and she did superbly to progress through her 100m heat and she finished 3rd in the final, with a new PB and place on the 4x100 team next weekend. Sadie Parker got the job done in the 200m, comfortably winning her heat and the final. No fewer than 10 of our juniors now progress to next weekends Schools Intercounties Championships, where they will represent their counties.

On Wednesday night at the NEGP, several of our juniors took the track and returned with fantastic results.

Caitlin Creaby continued her fine form, with another sub-15s 100m clocking. Older sister Lauren put in a strong run in the mile, whilst in the following heat there were huge PB's for Frankie Foster (5:38.12) and Niamh Adams (5:46.35). The Pichler brothers put in strong performances, with Luke taking 1st place in the long jump and shot put, whilst Oscar was close to his PB's in the same events.

Its been another busy parkrun weekend, with William, Daniel and Grace running well at the Blyth's links event, and we had 5 athletes at the Whitley Bay junior run with Jack Irving scoring a PB. On Sunday, Florence Archer took part in her first outdoor comp for the club in the senior track and field league, jumping an excellent 1.50m to take 2nd place.

MASSIVE PLEA FOR HELP FROM OUR PARENTS & FAMILY MEMBERS
Athletics can only run thanks to the support of volunteers. One thing we are desperately short of is FIELD OFFICIALS. These are volunteers who can help run field events at T&F comps, in particular the NEYDL. As a participating club, we are required by the rules to provided qualified officials at NEYDL events, something we have struggled to do last year. This year, if we are unable to fulfill our obligation to provide officials, we will not only lose points, but also we will be limited in the numbers of athletes we can enter into field events. This is something that we cannot allow to happen.

If you wish to consider starting on the officiating  journey, then please know that you will have the full support of the club and all fees will be paid in full by the club. Officials receive expenses, and have opportunities to progress if the ambition is there. Officials from Blyth have recently been in action at World-Class Diamond League events, and will testify that it is the most rewarding experience.
