Sailing

Hello everyone

A quiet weekend for most of us, but not for the competitors in the Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta who braved the cold conditions over at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron. Congratulations to the crew of Outlaw for taking to the water, see the regatta results later in the newsletter.

This weekend we have our next Brass Monkey race, a light westerly predicted at 13:00, turning south through the afternoon.  Light conditions also for the Dragon Force 65 Winter Championships round 4 to be held on the Sunday at the 'concrete pier'.  With 10 boats competing in round three, lets see if we can get a few more boats out of the box and onto the water. As I understand we now have over 25 boats within HBYC, if you are having trouble putting the boat together, please let us know as I am sure we now have the requisite skills in our group to assist.

Please note in your diaries the RYCV Lipton Regatta scheduled to be held in November this year.  With 'teams' made up of three boats across the three major racing divisions with one boat bringing in their Division A or B IRC result, another from Division C using its AMS result, and the final boat from Division D using its PHD result lets get some teams organised.

Australian Womens Keelboat Regatta

As mentioned above, this year's Australian Womens Keelboat Regatta was held last weekend at the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron.

Thirty years ago two female sailors were inspired to create a women’s only regatta after attending the New Zealand Women’s regatta. Their goal was to encourage women to get involved in the sport of sailing. This goal is still very much at the heart of the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta.

The original regatta was held over Melbourne Cup weekend and after four years, was moved to the Queen’s birthday long weekend in June. Over the years, the event has grown to become Australia’s premier women’s regatta and one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. By 2016 they had 26 boats with 168 competitors from every state and territory in Australia and New Zealand.

Remember your Crew Declarations.

Unfortunately we had to disqualify four boats in the last Brass Monkey race for not completing the required Crew Declaration prior to the start of the race.
This is in place for your safety, so please remember to -
- Complete for each race
- Provide the full list of crew including the owner/skipper
- Provide all emergency contact information

Boat Weighing.

If you are keen to enter your boat into either AMS or the new ORC_AP fixed rating system. Royal Yacht Club of Victoria are organising a weighing day scheduled for the end of July between our Brass Monkey races and the ORCV Winter race schedule.

There are presently three boats scheduled to be weighed, please let me know if you are interested.

Lipton Cup Regatta.

The Lipton Cup is named for the legendary tea merchant and yachtsman Sir Thomas Lipton who offered a cup to the value of 30 pounds to the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. It was awarded first to the yacht HELEN in 1909 and subsequently disappeared for 90 years until the Church family of Williamstown gifted it back to the club.

Taking place on 12-13 November, the 2022 Lipton Cup Regatta is a multi-class sailing event hosted by RYCV, which is expected to bring in more than 200 entries this year.

Teams will be made up of three boats across three major racing divisions with one boat bringing in their Division A or B IRC result, another from Division C using its AMS result, and the final boat from Division D using its PHD result.

While the team's trophy is only open to the divisional racing, the one-design classes competing can still look forward to an exciting format with Etchells, Adams 10s, S80s, and off-the-beach fleets all sure to have close and competitive racing across the weekend.

Save the date and start getting your team together to take out the trophy.

Once again, on water activity will be coupled with an exciting social program featuring live music, food and drink specials.

Further information will be available shortly but pencil in this date, and keep an eye on www.liptoncup.com.au

Please take note as to when and if you are on duty via the ‘Start Boat’ Roster available on our website via the following LINK.

If you are unable to assist on that day, please organise a replacement and let me know who that might be.
