Anna is one of several authors I’ve met through the Central Region Oklahoma Writers or CROW.

Anna resides in the same small Oklahoma town where she grew up, and has been a secretary at Anadarko Middle School for over twenty years. She married her high-school sweetheart, raised two children, and has an eight-year-old grandson who is her very best friend. Anna is a screenwriter, freelance writer, and fiction author with seven novels published through The Wild Rose Press and Pelican Book Group, four self-published books, and articles/stories featured in Writers’ Digest, Southern Writers, and Woman’s World magazine. She was named “Oklahoma’s Best Author of 2021” by Oklahoma Living magazine. Inspirational writings from her poetry book Brushing Fire are posted to her Facebook page each Sunday morning. It is 1968, and the secretive Group of Thirty has resisted the new Czech regime installed after the Prague Spring. Professor Valentýn Hrubý leads this campus group, fighting for the reforms crushed by Russian tanks. Hrubý keeps lists to help his forgetfulness, and the authorities find one of these lists, one that shows the names of his associates. The new government hires an assassin to track and dispose of the group’s members. Dressed in a three-piece suit and topped by his ever-present black fedora, Karanosz Tasev stalks his prey.

It is Friday, twelve days before Christmas, and the wolf has arrived.

A friend warns him that our worst memories and grief hide in the shadows of our souls. This young detective’s guilt casts a long shadow.
