Hey <<First Name>>

7 Deadly CEO Sins: Sloth

When you search out and value the truth, strategy and steering and cascading the ship is easy.

I found out at school, lying isn't a viable strategy... maintaining the story becomes far to complicated :)

Yet do you know what drives you and me?

Underlying our sloth is fear and a lack of courage to face or search out the facts. This sloth creates board top down vagueness.

Your lack of courage to be clear, leaves your best employees on the front line frustrated as hell, or your sloths smugly and self satisfied.

We can’t bear to get down to our work because if we were to apply ourselves, we risk terrifying humiliation.

We might not succeed as well as we’d like.

We might find a task too hard.

We may realize we’re not yet equipped to undertake it or be mocked by the world.

These aren’t failings so much as hugely understandable worries.

Behind our inaction is anticipated disaster… a catastrophizing mind.

We will begin at last, when the fear of doing nothing at all, trumps the crippling fear of doing something badly or attracting a mobbing?

Procrastination is really a five-syllable word for sloth.

That’s how I see this particular scene manifest most apparently in boardrooms around the world today.

It’s living in vagueness – not taking the hard action that you know needs to be taken.

In every case where I’ve been involved in turning around over 200 companies in the UK, I’ve seen C-suite executives bury their heads from the unfolding reality around them simply because it doesn’t sync with their vision of the future.

Sloth makes fads or woke look attractive, creating a falsehood of self righteousness, perfectly obfuscating reality and the truth. Woke is the perfection of sloth.

Maybe you feel there are some actions you should be taking, but you’re not, and you need a confidential air on how best to address them.

P.S. there is a lot of wisdom to be learned from the Middle East:

“The richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least” — an old saying in Arabic
