Hi <<First Name>>, |
Nature News - Pollution Problems
Did you know that pollution killed 9 million people worldwide in 2019? A horrifying number that accounted for a massive one in six deaths and almost all of these — 90% — occurred in low- and middle-income countries.
The good news is that deaths attributable to the types of pollution associated with extreme poverty — such as poor sanitation and household air pollution caused by burning fuel indoors — are dropping. But newer forms, including particles from burning fossil fuels and lead from shoddy recycling of batteries and electronic waste, are on the rise. So, overall, the situation has not improved since 2015.

Fortunately for the US, the implementation of the Clean Air Act in 1970 has improved the quality of air ever since. However, increasingly ferocious wildfires in the western US are taking a devastating toll on the region's air quality. U.S. air pollution statistics show that air pollution triggers exacerbations in various diseases and those with chronic lung disease are particularly vulnerable. While heat-related deaths have previously been predicted as the worst consequence of the climate crisis, researchers say that air pollution caused by smoke could be just as deadly.
Air pollution is Traditionally, wildfire season in California occurs in late summer and fall. However, the past years have shown that fire 'season' has extended and thus far in 2022, over 11,000 acres have already burned across the state. While increasing levels of wildfire destruction is a consequence of global heating and so forms part of a massive environmental problem that the entire world must join together to tackle, those in affected areas must do what they can now to prepare for the immediate and pressing dangers of the threat and consequences of these fires.

Skin Season
The skin is the largest organ of the body – both human and animal. It provides a protective barrier against the environment, regulates temperature, and gives us and our pets our sense of touch. In dogs, for example, the skin may be 12 to 24% of a dog’s body weight, depending on species and age. The skin has 3 major layers: the epidermis or outermost layer, the dermis or middle layer, and subcutis or innermost layer. Other important parts of the skin include skin appendages (such as hair and claws) and subcutaneous muscles and fat.

While there’s really no such thing as 'skin season' as we need to take care of and protect our pet’s skin all year round, the reality is that summer can be a tough time of the year for the skin. Seasonal allergies, insect bites, ticks and hot, humid weather all combine to add extra stress to skin and can lead to compulsive scratching, licking, and chewing and many annoying episodes of the Itchy & Scratchy Show! Fortunately, there are many steps that your customers can take to help keep their dog's skin in excellent condition. Read more about Common Skin Problems In Dogs in the Natural Pet Care Center and please do feel free to share this post or indeed any post with your staff and customers.

'Tick Season' is also upon us. That time of year when those nasty little critters come out in force, lying in wait for a chance to attach themselves to an unsuspecting warm body, whether human or animal. Ticks can carry and transfer several dangerous diseases, including Lyme disease, Haemobartonellosis, and Babesiosis. So it’s important to know how to spot a tick, how to remove it and how to help prevent ticks in the first place. Are you ready for July 4th celebrations?
We're also entering Firework season, in the build up to the Fourth of July celebrations. Unlike people, animals don’t associate the noise, flashes, and burning smell of fireworks with celebrations and often panic at the loud whizzes and bangs they produce. The 5th of July is the busiest day for most animal shelters because tragically more dogs are lost on the Fourth of July than any other day of the year. Quite simply, pets are terrified of fireworks, but there are many things pet owners can do to help keep their pets safe and secure.
While all necessary precautions may be taken to ensure pets are secure in their homes, they may still suffer intense fear and stress as Fireworks explode nearby. And as responsible pet parents, we always want to alleviate our animals' suffering. That's where HomeoPet Fireworks can work wonders. This natural medicine provides safe and gentle relief from fear of Fireworks and calms your pet using only natural ingredients. Now is the time to stock up to make sure you can help your customers to keep their pets calm and comfortable this July 4th, so contact your HomeoPet rep today to place your order.

HomeoPet – Natural Pet Care For 27 Years
Tom Farrington MRCVS., MVB., VetMFHom - recognized many years ago the increasing demand for alternative natural treatments for common conditions that, while not life-threatening, cause suffering in animals. Previous ways of treating such conditions were with expensive and often harmful drugs that had significant unwanted side effects. In 1990 Tom enrolled his brother Daniel to see if there might be a market for a safe, naturally based therapy for animals. After several years of research, in 1994 Tom's vast knowledge of animal health, veterinary medicine, homeopathy and natural pet care became available outside his clinic, when his brother Daniel founded HomeoPet and launched a range of natural medicines for animals. We have been helping pet owners and animal lovers around the world find a more natural route to pet health ever since.
