Big Church. Little Church.

Growing up, we always used the phrase Big Church to describe what adults did in the sanctuary and Little Church to describe what the kids did in classrooms. I get why churches adopted educational theories that became popular in the 20th century. The intention was to help young people learn the faith in an age appropriate manner, which led to the boom of Sunday schools, children's ministry and youth ministry. What we ended up with in many cases was just like the "kid's table" at Thanksgiving. Adults do one thing and the children do another, hence "Big Church and Little Church".

Summer in the Psalms: We look forward to immersing ourselves in one of the most beautifully written books in the bible. If you aimed to read 2 chapters of Psalms a day, you would finish by the end of summer. I hope you'll join me!
Sunday's Message: This Sunday started our summer series through the book of Psalms, with Nate preaching his message from Psalm 1. This particular Psalm describes a tree rooted by a stream as a life that earnestly seeks after God, compared to wickedness which is like chaff that blows away in the wind. We are reminded to meditate on the law of the Lord in order to fill our minds and souls with the presence of God. Listen, and be encouraged!
Hope Kids are doing a new series on God's Creation through the summer that started last Sunday. The kids are learning a new song and will perform it at the end of the summer!

NEW Memory Verse:
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." -Genesis 1:1

Reminders: It is warming up outside! Please send your child with a water bottle that is clearly labeled if you would like for them to have a drink. We will do our best to remember what your child brought with them, but please remind us at pickup!

Are you familiar with Juneteenth? Take a second to do a little research to learn about this important celebration for the African American community. Nate has been invited to help with a Juneteenth celebration this Saturday June 18th at Portia Hines Park from 12-5pm and we'd love for you all to join. There will be free food, music, games and vendors. In order to love our neighbors, we must be willing to learn about our neighbors!

Tithing is an act of generosity and a simple response to God's generosity to us. Since we are doing church a little differently, we encourage you to tithe online or send your giving to our post office box. Our gifts support the mission of this church in our community and beyond and we are grateful for your generosity.
