Pat Griffin, historian, is author of numerous articles and two books, Līhuʻe: Root and Branch of a Hawaiʻi Town and Wilcox Memorial Hospital in the Twentieth Century. She serves on the Hawaiʻi Historic Places Review Board and Historic Hawaiʻi Foundation Board of Trustees. Her wedding reception was held in the Queen’s Audience Hall, Coco Palms.
Don Hibbard sits on the board of Docomomo Hawaii. He worked for twenty-four years in the Hawaii State Historic Preservation Office, first as an architectural historian and then as division administrator and Deputy SHPO. Two of his books, The View from Diamond Head, (Honolulu: Editions Limited, 1986), and Designing Paradise (New York: Princeton Architectural Press, 2006); consider the development of Hawaii’s visitor industry and architecture as a conveyor of history and a sense of place. He has taught courses at the University of Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific University in the fields of historic preservation and architectural history. For the past twenty years he has provided heritage specialist services for various architectural firms, governmental agencies, and individuals in Hawaii.
Mason Chock is a co-founding member and former Executive Director of Leadership Kaua`i and has worked in education and public service for 23 years. He is the President of Kupu A’e Leadership Development, a leadership experiential education company on Kauai, specializing in cultural, place-based learning, adventure-based therapy, team building and leadership development. A la'au lapa'au and Ho'oponopono practitioner, Mason follows the lineage of Aunty Mahilani Poepoe, Levon Ohai and Uncle Dennis Kauahi. He is also actively focused on social change and systems improvements in business, education and government and currently serves as the vice chairman on the Kauai County Council, President of the Hawaii Association of Counties, Chairman of the Kauai Resiliency Project and President of Malama Huleia.
Pualiʻiliʻimaikalani Rossi-Fukino is a lineal descendent of the ahupuaʻa of Wailua on the mokupuni of Kauaʻi. She was raised just minutes from where the remains of Coco Palms still stands and is passionate about honoring this place where the Aliʻi were born and held space. Pua holds a B.A. in Hawaiian Studies and in Anthropology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo and an M.A. in Hawaiian Studies from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Since 2007, she has worked as a Hawaiian Studies and Hawaiian Language instructor at Kauaʻi Community College. Pua is a current board member of H.A.P.A. (Hawaiʻi Alliance for Progressive Action) and the Hawaiʻi Council for the Humanities. She is also the mother of two young boys who keep her very busy!
Angie Westfall has over 25 years of experience in architecture and historic preservation. She has worked at MASON for 8 years where, in 2000, she completed a National Register of Historic Places nomination for Coco Palms. The nomination included historic research, documentation of the existing buildings, and a determination of historic eligibility. In May 2020 Coco Palms was added to the Hawai‘i and National Registers of Historic Places.
