Fire-werk it, own it

We know you're busy packing 10 outfits, 12 pairs of shoes and a myriad of bathing suit options — while probably "forgetting" your nighttime mouth gear — for a long Fourth of July weekend away, so we'll keep this week's newsletter short and sweet true to form.

Forward this to someone who's ready to explode.

Go Fourth

From noon–6 p.m., Monday, July 4, Downtown Greensboro invites one and all to its Fun Fourth Freedom Fest filled with fantastic fabulosity to fall into with friends or family. (It took all of our willpower to use that alliterative "f" sequence without our fav word: food, duh.) Have an all-day blast with these activities:

  • It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. But that's why you have two. Gather a team of five to compete in charades, trivia, a balloon head bounce and cup-stacking for a chance to win prizes during Family Fun and Games.
  • We do, we do, we do, we do . . . you got us helpless! This year, four couples will tie the knot during Red, White + Say I Do. If you ever wanted to crash a wedding, this one's for you.
  • We've already set aside our American flag bikini, red feather boa and sparkling blue sequined cowboy boots for the Best Dressed Contest. Good luck topping that.
  • It doesn't matter if the front seat's broken and the axel's draggin' — dress up that little red wagon for the Wagon Decorating Contest
  • First National Bank Field will be rockin' with cracks of the bat followed by fireworks at the Grasshoppers' home game at 6:30 p.m., Monday, July 4. Because there's nothing more American than baseball and hot dogs. And we want a hot dog real bad.
  • Party like it's 1776 all day with live music stages, street performers, a balloon maze, a dunking tank, interactive games and — our personal fav — red, white and roll, a skating rink made for our previously mentioned attire. Don't be hatin' when you see us rollin'.

We're first-y

But first, we pre-party. Hit up First Friday on the first of July. From SouthEnd Brewing's First Friday hop-pening to Greensboro Downtown Parks' drum circle, art park and Latin dancing, there's something for everyone.

Raising fur-acious readers

Bored this summer? Just read, doggone it! Through the Greensboro Library, your little one has the paw-portunity to practice reading to a friendly pup — who might be silently judging their pronunciation. We'll never know. Check out Healing Paaws, 6–8 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, and Tail-Wagging Tutors, 5 p.m., most Mondays.

A Pryor engagement

Some things just belong together: peanut butter & jelly, mac & cheese, Pryor & Wilder. At 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, catch the classic comedic duo in Stir Crazy at the Carolina Theatre.

We believe you have our stapler

We don't want to throw off the ratio of people to cake, but we'd love to have you cowork in our office space at Transform GSO from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28. Free coworking day pairs well with bread and paper jam.

Such tees

From 4–6 p.m., Thursday, June 30, get the whole family ready for the Fourth of July at Lindley Pool with a groovy group project: custom tees. Your $10 fee covers the shirt, supplies and pool admission. Ta-da, it's tye-dye!

American cheese

Let's hear it for the red, white and bleu! Learn how to create a patriotic snack tray with Wanderlust at Summerfield Farms' Fourth of July Charcuterie Workshop at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 30. Stars and stripes — and stilton — forever!

Crown-ing glory

Into nice guys? Nah, Demeanor, the better. And this one is bringing his unique blend of hip-hop and unorthodox folk to his native city. Catch Demeanor in the Crown at the Carolina Theatre at 8 p.m., Friday, July 1.

Po-em G

Strike your prose. Give poetry a whirl instead at the Benjamin Bards virtual workshop from 4–5:30 p.m., Saturday, July 2. Open to teen and adult rhymesters.

Let freedom run

Get a running start on Downtown Greensboro's festivities with the Fun Fourth Freedom Run, beginning at 7:30 a.m., Monday, July 4. If you see a streak of lavender — because red + white + blue — dash by, it's not us.

Workin' on that dad dead bod

Season 2 of one of our fav shows drops today on Hulu: Only Murders in the Bulding. If you're into dark comedy and love the classic pairing of Steve Martin and Martin Short with a dash of Selena Gomez spice, prepare your snacks now. You're in for an all-night bingefest.
