Activities Planned at Welk Homestead State Historic Site
BISMARCK, N.D. – The Welk Homestead State Historic Site will be hosting July events that include a blacksmith demonstration, the Accordion Jam Festival, and Creative Crafting days. All events are free and open to the public.
Bob McCay, an amateur blacksmith, will share his knowledge of the craft on July 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Bismarck resident, a blacksmith for more than 10 years, learned the craft while working with others and enjoys teaching and demonstrating these skills to the public.
On July 10 from 1 to 3 p.m., visitors will decorate gingerbread cookies at Creative Crafting: Cookies.
The Accordion Jam Festival set for July 16 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. will include Prairie Stories with Tom Isern, a German cooking presentation and demonstration by Sue Balcom, the Accordion Jam Festival, a vendor show, a painting class, and evening band music.
Creative Crafting: Agriculture on July 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. will feature painting wooden farm animal cutouts.
The Welk Homestead, located at 845 88th St. SE, Strasburg, is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
