The Prisoner released

A delightful week with Mario Alberti in Montpellier and Paris, signing copies of the just-released first volume of our modern Monte Cristo. As scenarist, it was a bit intimidating for me to sign alongside a consummate illustrator like Mario. But I summoned the chutzpah to add my scribble-sketches beside his wonderful quick watercolors. Sometimes I did a caricature of the customer, sometimes Mario at work, sometimes my own Monte Cristo fan art.

The first reviews are in, with links on the Monte-Cristo book page, and this longer interview from the Comédie du Livre. Thanks to everyone who took the chance to discover this new trilogy in its first days. Mario is already hard at work on Book Two: The Island, so you shouldn't have to wait too long for Sam Castillo to begin his revenge!

Dziękuję!

A big thank you to all the game fans I met in Warsaw at Pixel Heaven 2022. The love for games in Poland is huge, and I was touched by the personal memories that many shared during the book signings. The proceeds from the 200+ copies of The Making of Prince of Persia and Monte-Cristo that you purchased will go to Project Hope Ukraine. Thanks to Stripe Press and Glénat BD for donating the books, and to Pixel Heaven for organizing it.

A highlight of the visit was the day I spent with Eric Chahi being shown around Warsaw by Piotr Mankowski, including a visit to the Apple museum containing pretty much every model of keyboard on which I logged untold thousands of hours in the 1980s and 90s. When I saw Woz's signature and photo beside this 1976 Apple I, it clicked with me that both our family roots come from Poland, so the Fabryka Norblina was a very appropriate place for this encounter.

8-bit souvenirs

In the absence of officially licensed Prince of Persia merchandising, creative fans have gone ahead and made their own. At Pixel Heaven I saw and signed many unique artifacts, from T-shirts to a custom acrylic collector's box to this poster. Homemade merchandising is the best!

From my sketchbook

In Warsaw's Lazienki Park, during a stroll around the lake with Eric and Piotr on a beautiful spring day. It was so pleasant there in the shade at the water's edge, I could have stayed for hours... but then we'd have missed the Apple Museum.

Now it's back to Montpellier and back to work, on new projects I'll post and share more about in coming months.
