Dear Ones,

On Sunday, our nation will remember Juneteenth, the celebration of African-American people’s liberation from slavery. LMC will celebrate the holiday on Friday with music, food and a party that will honor Black culture, contributions and life.

The journey before us towards racial justice is a long game. The commitment is more than a flash in the pan but must stretch across the years. It asks us to both reflect on our past and our present and to dream of the kind of future where all people are celebrated, honored and safe. As people of God, we are challenged to imagine a just and beloved Kingdom of God. Jesus talks about this Kingdom of God all the time in the gospels. While moments of it break into our world now and again, we are not yet there. Over the last year, as a church we have taken steps deepen our understanding of and commitment to racial justice and we are called to continue in this commitment.

Join us at the party on Friday and in church on Sunday as we celebrate Juneteenth! May we continue to heed the call of the Holy Spirit to work for Justice.

COVID Safety

LMC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of those who attend worship. Given the rise in COVID cases and the contagiousness of current COVID strains, we encourage anyone who attends worship to consider using N95 or KN95 masks. We will provide masks for those who do not have them. The city of Chicago COVID advisory level is currently HIGH. When the city moves the advisory level back to LOW, we will invite everyone to be mask optional in the sanctuary.

Juneteenth Celebration on June 17

Our Juneteenth celebration is returning this year with music, food, games, and more! Join LMC’s Faith + Justice Team on Friday, June 17, at 4pm on the front lawn. In the event of inclement weather, we will move indoors to the Fellowship Hall and Multipurpose Room. Masks are required indoors.

LMC in the Chicago Pride Parade

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
—John 15:12
In June, we celebrate God's love for all God's children, for we are all made in God's image, regardless of our sexual orientation and/or gender identity. LMC is happy to celebrate this unconditional love at the Chicago Pride Parade on Sunday, June 26. We will be marching in the parade with the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches. The tentative schedule is to worship together at 10am and then take the Brown Line to the meeting location before the parade steps off at noon. All are invited! Please reach out to either Sarah Swagler or Kurt Matthesius if you have questions and to let us know if you plan on marching with us!
