Dear Ones,
On Sunday, our nation will remember Juneteenth, the celebration of African-American people’s liberation from slavery. LMC will celebrate the holiday on Friday with music, food and a party that will honor Black culture, contributions and life.
The journey before us towards racial justice is a long game. The commitment is more than a flash in the pan but must stretch across the years. It asks us to both reflect on our past and our present and to dream of the kind of future where all people are celebrated, honored and safe. As people of God, we are challenged to imagine a just and beloved Kingdom of God. Jesus talks about this Kingdom of God all the time in the gospels. While moments of it break into our world now and again, we are not yet there. Over the last year, as a church we have taken steps deepen our understanding of and commitment to racial justice and we are called to continue in this commitment.
Join us at the party on Friday and in church on Sunday as we celebrate Juneteenth! May we continue to heed the call of the Holy Spirit to work for Justice.
