Worship and Witness during War
Today at 6:05 the ground shook
     and the noise was unmistakable.

"People scattered and mothers with children cried as the group preached at the train station. People rushed onto the trains and they departed right away…others ran down to the bomb shelters. Our group followed down to the shelter to preach. Maybe 70 people in that one?  The gospel was preached and then headed home(SIC). Sounds like the airport right by our apartment was hit this time. God is good. Jesus is making His enemies a footstool. He is drawing His children to himself. In His presence, there is fullness of joy. Keep praying with us.”

This account was written by a team member of Dr. Coleman Boyd of By All Means Ministry. Dr. Boyd with his son and daughter traveled 24+ hours to southern Ukraine to minister, and encourage those in need. Between them, they had seven bulging suitcases of medical supplies and clothing to aid the people of Odessa.
The Boyd team joined other American friends and together they ministered on the streets of this southern city, passing out gospel tracts, praying with the hurting, and worshipping with God’s people on Sunday.

During one Sunday morning worship service, three missiles exploded in the Odessa area. While God’s people sang, praised, and worshipped, one missile hit so close to the church that the concussion from the explosion moved the curtains in the church. But, God protected those who worshipped and the service continued without any damage. In this church, Christians have been praying 24/7 since the War began.

Please pray, for the people of Ukraine who are seeing their country destroyed day
by day. Also, pray for Dr. Boyd and his team members as they continue to work and minister in this war-torn country. Despite all the damage and death, God is touching lives and the people of Ukraine are seeing miracles happen daily…

Part 10
Early morning in China was Elda’s time to take her walks out of the mission compound and into different areas of the local village. As the pink glow from the morning sun crossed her path she came upon a cotton patch. This was an unusual find for a Pennsylvania girl. She had never seen cotton growing in a field.  As she stopped to review the rows and rows of the fluffy white cotton she was amazed at the way that it grew in pods. She plucked three pods and raced to her morning breakfast and shared the pods with her missionary sisters. Her newfound cotton pods made a wonderful decoration for the breakfast table.

After Elda’s first year in China, she described her language studies as a slow plodding along into the Chinese words and phrases. She also became aware that it was necessary to change the way she thought about the Chinese language. When she wrote to her family to explain how the Chinese people thought about words these are examples that she used to explain herself. First was the English  version: There is an old fellow outside begging. Next is the Chinese version: Outside head have one piece old head child want food to eat. Another example was: English: You tell him to bring it to me. Chinese: You call him take come give me. English: There is no paper here. Chinese: This in not have paper. When the Chinese people learn English they find our thought process difficult. So it was very easy to understand how difficult it was for Elda to learn Chinese.
At the end of May 1915, the mission school for boys and girls completed the school year. Many of these students came from homes where the parents and families were not Christians. But the boys and girls were sent to the mission school because they would receive a better education than the Chinese government schools. During the school year, many of these students made a commitment to follow Jesus. Elda’s prayer was that these boys and girls would
continue to follow Jesus. Often these students were persecuted by their families because of their commitment to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior.
