Sunday Morning Worship, 10 AM
Every gardener knows that planting seeds are the easy part of having a successful garden. Once the seeds of any garden begin to take root and sprout, they fight for their space in that garden with weeds. If a garden is not tended to, the unsown and unwelcomed weeds will overthrow and take over that garden. A good gardener knows the importance of Dealing with Weeds. As we continue with the sermon series entitled, the Stories of Jesus, we look again at another parable that Jesus told the people found in the Gospel according to Matthew (13:24-30; 39-43). This parable speaks of the correlation between dealing with weeds in a garden and dealing with weeds in our lives.
Masks are encouraged, but not required. The service will be livestreamed to our Facebook group for those not ready to return in person. Sermons will be posted on YouTube (video) and on our website (audio)

How many of you take the time to watch all the end credits of a movie, television show, or documentary? I dare say most of us fast forward or leave the theater (or room) when those end credits begin. We all know that those end credits list everyone involved in the production, not just those who have starring roles. They are those “behind the scene” individuals that make things run smoothly and help to produce a good film, sitcom, or documentary.
“Behind the Scene” individuals are just as important for the ministry within the church. Our church has many individuals who assist “behind the scenes,” but we could use help with the Behind the Scenes activities at Spirit of Hope UMC. Those activities could include things that need to be done around our campus, during worship, before worship, or even throughout the week. You may even come up with your own "Behind the Scenes" activity that you noticed, but instead of telling someone about something not being done, step up and do it yourself. Remember this is our church and each one of YOU is a vital and important part of its ministry. Please consider being a “behind the scene” helper in the following ways: DURING THE WEEK
1. Write an article for the Visionary 2. Send a card to someone 3. Be in charge of making sure the volunteer positions for Sunday morning worship are filled 4. Pick up recycle (take the bags to your recycle bin at home; there are no recycling bins for pickup at the church) 5. Pick up bagels from Einstein's (59th & Thunderbird) on Wednesday around 2 pm. Bring them back to Spirit of Hope to be bagged for WVFP. 6. Bag Bagels on Wednesday for West Valley Community Food Pantry 7. Make sack lunches for Justa Center on the First Sundays of each month BEFORE WORSHIP 1. Bring snacks for Fellowship Time on Sundays 2. Set up snacks for Fellowship Time in Simonsen Miller Fellowship Center 3. Clean up Simonsen Miller Fellowship Center after Fellowship Time and put snacks away for another time. 4. Prepare communion elements for Sunday Worship service DURING WORSHIP
1. Help with Children's Moments 2. Assist with Children's Sunday School 3. Be an usher during the offertory 4. Be a liturgist 5. Sing a solo or duet or be a part of the choir 6. Be a communion server.
Many thanks go out to the good people of Spirit of Hope United Methodist Church for the wonderful and surprising "Retirement Party" for me. The afternoon of June 5th was filled with delectable treats, a beautiful quilt, a photo memory book, a video journey through my ministry, wonderful cards & gifts, and surprising reconnection with past parishioners from the past churches I have served. All of it will be remembered and cherished for years to come. I know that a lot of work went into each aspect of this "Retirement Party" as you all collaborated together for such a beautiful send-off to my "New Adventure." Both Skip and I cherish all the memories we have experienced at Spirit of Hope and will always keep you in our prayers.
God bless you all, Deborah
HART Pantry News
It's already time for HART Pantry to start planning for the back to school backpacks for their high schoolers. Things are a little different this year. They have donors for some supplies like the backpacks. They have asked us to concentrate on four specific items - 1 1/2 inch 3 ring binders, packages of college rule notebook paper, composition books, and calculators (the little handheld ones). There is a box in the sanctuary for donations. All donations must be in by Wednesday, July 13th. If you have questions please contact Judy Barber. Thank you for your support.
Pastor Christine Jones is very much looking forward to being at Spirit of Hope starting in July! We have been praying the beautiful prayers written by Jon Elvrum and I know that she appreciates already your prayers for her.
Last week we started sharing one fun fact each week to help get better acquainted. This week's fun fact is: she and her husband, William, met on the campus of Glendale Community College. While Christine teaches English at GCC, William is a professor at Arizona Agribusiness and Equine High School in the dual enrollment program.
