Greetings Metro Atlanta Tiger Family!
Greetings Tiger Family,
My name is John Clark and I am the new President of the Metro Atlanta Chapter. I’m excited about our chapter's future and what we will accomplish to support our beloved Savannah State University. I am honored to serve and look forward to working with the new chapter officers and all of our chapter members.

For those of you that do not know me, I grew up in Thomasville, Ga. and I am a 2007 honor graduate of Savannah State University where I majored in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. I am currently a Senior Product Analyst at Fiserv and I am also the co-owner of JJ Real Estate Group, a socially real estate investment firm, and CleanLeeNess, a residential and commercial cleaning service. I am a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and Urban League of Greater Atlanta- Young Professionals. I love to travel, eat out, dance, and spend time with my family and friends in my free time.

I would like to give a personal thank you to Kenneth Dandy, our Chapter President from 2012-2022. Through his outstanding leadership, the chapter has grown in membership, donations, and exposure. Ken took me under his wings and mentored me from the moment I joined the chapter, and I am forever thankful to him and his leadership.

Lastly, my vision for the chapter is to continue the legacy of supporting Savannah State through scholarships, recruitment, and service while providing more networking, exposure, and opportunities for our chapter members. Together, we can take this chapter to the next level and better serve the students and administration at Savannah State University.

In the words of our first school President, Richard R. Wright, "tell them we are rising."

  Chapter Brain Storming
The Metro Atlanta Chapter will be holding a virtual chapter brainstorming retreat on Thursday, July 14th at 7 pm. We will discuss our chapter vision, chapter committees, upcoming events, fundraisers, and new ideas.  All current members and those interested in joining our chapter are invited. No experience is needed just great ideas, passion, dedication, and enthusiasm to serve.

This is a friendly reminder that the Metro Atlanta Chapter of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association (SSUNAA) is collecting dues for the new fiscal year (07/01/2022 – 06/30/2023).  For Life Members, your dues will be $50.  For Annual Members, your dues is $120 ($70 for National and $50 for local).  Being a member of this chapter affords you the opportunity of joining one of the fastest growing chapters in the SSUNAA.  We are a very active group, who enjoy warm fellowships with one another.  We are also focused on supporting our beloved alma mater through fundraising, recruiting, and advocacy.  We would love to welcome you into our fold!  To begin, we are asking all new and prospective members to complete our membership application, by clicking the following link

Alumni Mentor Network Initiative
Greetings Alums-

The Office of Alumni Relations is working to establish an Alumni Mentoring Network Initiative where a student pursuing a career can be paired with an alum who may be working in or previously worked in the same field. The expectation is that the student and mentor would meet periodically to discuss goals, academic progress (encouraging the student to perform their best), possible internship opportunities, career advice, etc.

If you are interested in signing up to serve as a mentor for a current SSU student, please complete the form which can be accessed via the link below. The goal is to get this started this fall!

Greetings!

University Advancement is looking forward to the arrival of our Tiger students this Fall in pursuit of their educational goals and aspirations. We're filled with enthusiasm for the return of fall athletics, and the return of our alumni and friends to our beautiful campus. We are diligently at work preparing for an entire season to include planning for the games, member receptions, and special events throughout the year. 


This past academic year produced SSU's best overall athletic achievements in quite some time. As most of you are aware, your membership provided the much-needed financial support that fueled some of this success. As we continue to develop more ways to engage our alumni, community friends and business partners who help support our athletic endeavors, please pay close attention to one such effort, the End Zone Club. University Advancement is extremely excited to provide this new opportunity to support our athletic teams and network with others who share our passion. You will hear more about this opportunity over the next couple of weeks. Be sure to look at the attached brochure under "Membership" for information on how you can join this new and exciting way to enjoy SSU Athletics.

SSU Alum, Eddie Gontee, talks about Physician burnout with U.S. Surgeon General
From Eddie's Instagram: "Last month on my General Surgery rotation @morehouseschoolofmedicine, I had the honor of meeting with the @u.s.surgeongeneral for a round table talk discussion centered on Physician burnout. It was a very engaging because everyone involved had a chance to give their account of how the pandemic impacted their lives socially, economically, professionally and spiritually. I took advantage of this moment to share my story in the most honest and transparent way possible. I talked about my life as an immigrant from Liberia and the importance of family support. I also spoke about my dreams of becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon and how helpful Morehouse has been on this journey. The Surgeon General and his team loved it and asked me if they could share it with America. Thank you to he Office of the Surgeon General and Morehouse School of Medicine for making this possible! 4th year of medical school is turning out to be the year of Highlights."

Eddie is one of the 3 Savannah State alums enrolled at Morehouse School of Medicine that the Metro Atlanta Chapter presented medals to during our February 2020 Chapter Meeting. Congratulations Eddie and continue to show the world "You Can Get Anywhere From Here"

The Dr. Lester W. Butts Scholarship was established by the Metro Atlanta Chapter SSUNAA in 2001. Dr. Butts was a 1949 graduate of Savannah State University, the second president of the Metro Atlanta SSUNAA, the first principal of Douglass High School (Atlanta school system), and the Superintendent of Atlanta City Schools in 1990. He served in the Metro Atlanta Chapter from the 1960’s until his death in 1999. Since the chapter's inception, we have awarded scholarships to more than 150 students from the metro Atlanta area.
