Ok so I think we will all agree that the winter weather is here, Monday felt particularly bad and it didn't seem to let up all day!!

As we have shared before, there have been large numbers of students absent of late. All but a few have been with this Flu that is going around - not COVID. Thank you parents for helping keep us all safe, by keeping your tamariki home if they are unwell.

Sometimes it feels like this term has had more interruptions than usual BUT we have boxed on and made the most of the situation.

I’m loving getting around the Winter sport venues and watching our tamariki, please remember to let me know where and when so I can plan my travels.

Matariki Celebrations
Wednesday 22nd June

We will be having class workshops during the morning PLUS all students will get a chance to attend the STARLAB at the Carterton Events Centre between 9-12:30.

THEN……..
6pm - 7pm We will have our annual celebration evening. This year the South End Kindy and their families are joining us.

6pm - meet in the school hall for Karakia & Waiata

Followed by our LANTERN PARADE (each child has made one at school)

SOUP & BREAD in the hall to finish.

HELP - please can you let the office know if you can provide a pot of soup for the celebration.

Public Health Nurse

Kia Ora, my name is Sam and I am the Public Health Nurse for South End School.

I will be present within the school alternate Thursday’s (odd weeks of term) between 9am-12pm.

Alternatively, I can be reached for individual appointments at the school between Tuesdays and Fridays - 9am to 3.30pm - on either 06 377 9126 or 027 286 4101.

My role within the school includes:

The scope to assess, advocate and refer children to hospital, outpatients, specialists or education services
Connecting children and families with community and social services
Supporting access to health care
Supporting the individual child referred by parents/caregivers or schools

Thank you, and I look forward to becoming more involved with the school whānau.

What's Happening?

Cross Country Congratulations to the 16 students who qualified to represent our Carterton Cluster at the Wairarapa Cross Country Event tomorrow. We wish them all well. Troy, Ollie, Sarah, Dan, Sebastian, Tyler, Neve, Barney, Xavier, Reuben, Aria, Sian, Cooper, Jensen, Ez, Eva.

Book Town We had lots of students head off all over the place last week to the “Book town“ activities. A wonderful opportunity to meet authors, writers and illustrators.

Junior Dance Workshops Today the Junior school began their 5 sessions with the Footstep Dance company. We sincerely thank Ka Pai Carterton for sponsoring these workshops for our students.

Board of Trustees Update

Works update: We are thrilled to share that the Rimu decking project has now been fully completed with the curtains being installed late last week - a wonderful asset.

PLUS our new sign has gone up at the school entrance - hopefully this will help visitors know which door to come in!!! Many thanks to ‘Marks Signs’ and Kevin and cam for installing it.

YES the front of the school and parking / driveway is next on the list!

HERO: Is our School management System. It is vital that all families hook up to Hero so that we can communicate with you. As we get up and running you will be able to see your child and their learning progress. There are also features such as sending an absence (that gets sent directly to the class roll) and viewing medical room visits. When making an account on the Hero app please use the same email you have registered with the school (so it links to your child/ren), if you would like to update your email address please email us at office@southend.school.nz and tell us your email address + the student profile to attach it to. click here for more information: Hero.

Water

We are a Water Only School. We encourage all students to have a water bottle with them at school. If a child brings another type of drink to school the teachers will take the drink off them and give it back at the end of the day, to take home.
