FAIRVIEW COLUMNS

OUR WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
FAIRVIEW FAMILY
Grace, mercy, and peace to you. I write to you today anticipating worship with you Sunday when we'll come to the Lord's table together for communion. 1 Corinthians 11 instructs us to prepare our hearts to come to the table, I'm also reminded of Jesus' words in John 6:35: "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in my shall never thirst." See you Sunday.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
VBS is on for July 18-22, and registration is live! https://www.fairviewpca.com/vacation-bible-school/?swcfpc=1
VBS wouldn't happen without our bevy of volunteers, and we still need more! If you do not currently have a volunteer role in this important discipleship and outreach event, please email me. We could use help in the classrooms, with registration, crafts, decoration, photography, setup, and cleanup. Thanks for your willingness to serve our children!

ADULT SUMMER READING CLUB
Gilead by Marilynne Robinson
Published in 2004, Gilead is a bittersweet account of a dying Congregationalist minister, John Ames. The story, which is set in Gilead, Iowa, in 1956, unfolds in the form of a letter that he is writing to his young son to tell him all the things he will not be able to tell him when he gets older. With a slow and thoughtful pace, John shares past family memories and resolves an old personal grievance with the son of his best friend, Robert Boughton, who is a Presbyterian minister. As John explores the bonds and breakdowns in relationships between fathers and sons, he moves back and forth between his memories and the present. John's heartfelt, joyous love of life and his profound religious faith weave throughout the narrative.

Gilead "is so serenely beautiful, wrote one reviewer, "that one feels touched by grace just to read it."

Pick up a copy from Dan Nowell beginning this Sunday and write August 17, 6:15 p.m. on your calendar for a book discussion party led by Dan.
