Fire Damages Second Eastside Home within Ten Hours

300 Block of Raymond

Elgin, IL – On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, just after 0600 a.m., members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the 300 block of Raymond St. for a report of smoke coming from a home.
 
Responding fire companies arrived within 4 minutes of dispatch and found active fire showing from the rear attic space of the home as well as well smoke multiple windows and the roof.  Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 10 minutes of arrival and kept the fire contained to the attic.  Damage from the fire rendered the home inhabitable with damages exceeding $100,000. 
 
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries due to the fire however tenants were unable to reoccupy the structure once the smoke was removed by crews on scene. The Elgin Fire Department assisted the tenants with finding shelter utilizing assistance through The Red Cross. The Elgin Fire Department Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire.

Make sure you have properly installed and maintained smoke detectors in your home and/or business. Smoke detectors are the first line of defense during a fire event. Test smoke detectors each month and make a habit of changing the batteries twice a year, like when you change your clocks.
