Join representatives from the National Housing and Law Project (NHLP), the Safe Housing Alliance (SHA), the Domestic Violence and Housing Technical Assistance Consortium (DVHTAC), HUD, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), and other experts on June 22, 2022, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT or June 28, 2022, from 2:00 –3:00 PM EDT. The webinars will discuss challenges and successes in empowering communities, including:
- Working with survivors and other protected groups
- Preventing evictions and other penalties for help-seeking behaviors imposed under local nuisance ordinances and crime-free programs
A growing number of local governments have implemented some form of crime-free housing programs and/or nuisance property ordinances. These programs or ordinances can have profound and long-lasting effects on renters, in particular survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking, as well as other protected groups.
Learn how these initiatives deter survivors and others from seeking help, inhibit their ability to access and retain housing, and generally undermine public safety and community efforts to increase racial equity.
The webinar will review challenges and successes in minimizing the negative impact of these programs and ordinances and will discuss how grantees can optimally guide stakeholders, including survivors and other protected groups, on working with landlords to prevent evictions and other penalties for help-seeking behaviors related to these programs and ordinances.
