ONE STEP AT A TIME
A big thank you to everyone who has participated in the SLH survey about reducing carbon footprint in the Heatons. If you haven't yet completed a survey please spare us 10 minutes, simply click on this link.
You could win £25.00 to spend at the Heatons Post Hub!
Why not try out the quick and easy WWF Carbon Footprint tool . You can download the app by visiting Apple store or Google store. It is really easy to use. Once you’ve filled in your data you can put in a postcode which will then compare your carbon footprint to the average carbon footprint of other people who have taken the quiz within the area (down to first 3 digits in postcode e.g. SK1) – this is broken down into the categories home / travel / food / stuff.
Results of the SLH survey will be published on our website.
Why not share your stories with us, what small step have you taken? It could be reducing the amount of meat you eat per week, reducing the amount of time you use the car, keeping your mobile phone for another year instead of getting the newest model, learning to repair clothes/household items.
If you are happy for us to share your stories we will post them on our website and Social Media. Contact us at info@slheatons.org for more information.
PEDAL POWER
Our June jaunt involved a lovely gentle ride from The Heaton pub car park on Didsbury Road to Fletcher Moss, then to Didsbury Park, and finishing at the Good Life newly opened café back on Didsbury Road. Our bike rides continue to be very popular and we plan to do more based on your input, so let us know what it is that you want to do - learn more about how to commute using safe routes into Manchester or Stockport, build your confidence around cycling, encourage the family to cycle. Everyone is welcome no matter what level of ability, age or type of bike!
It isn't just about getting from A to B. Visit our stand at the Heatons Summerfest on 10th July and find out how to make a Smoothie with pedal power! Better still if you would like to help out on the day both the organisers of the event, Heatons Post Hub and SLH are looking for volunteers. Contact SLH at info@SLHeatons.org if you can help, or Heatons Post.
AGM AND CHESHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST'S REWILDING STOCKPORT
Thanks to everyone who came to our AGM and to the inspirational talk by the team from Cheshire Wildlife Trust about how we can encourage hedgehogs in the Heatons. We also heard about Rewilding Stockport - Turning Stockport into a community nature reserve.
What is Rewilding Stockport?
Do you want a Stockport that buzzes with nature? A Stockport that has beautiful outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy? A Stockport where people from different communities, businesses, schools and individuals work together to make it happen? Stockport needs you to rewild our already brilliant town into a community nature reserve.
There are lots of great projects that you can get involved in. See the SLH website for a longer piece about this great project which can involve us all in small ways or big. Or follow the link or scan the QR code below to find out all the ways you can be a part of Rewilding Stockport!
A6 CRITICAL MASS: LAST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH AT 6.30PM
We thought that the cyclists among you would like to know about this monthly ride to raise awareness of the importance of better cycle provision on the A6. Some of us have joined the ride which starts at the Town Hall Tavern, just by the Town Hall on the A6. It's an informal event, with varying numbers, but a chance to meet other cyclists and make a statement together! Check out the A6 Critical Mass Twitter and also Facebook platforms for current information. Hope to see you there!

HEATON MERSEY VILLAGE GARDEN
The gardening team in Heaton Mersey meet to maintain the garden on the fourth Tuesday and the second Sunday of the month from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join in.
The garden is opposite the set of shops that includes McColls and The Good Life, and next to the Sea Scouts hut and the car park on Didsbury Road. Bring gloves and small tools if you have them, although the team will come with some equipment. More information from info@slheatons.org
HEDGE MAINTENANCE: NEXT SESSION SUNDAY JUNE 26TH 10-12 NOON
This not our regular date for maintenance: it's usually the third Sunday in the month but we moved it this month because of Heatons Open Gardens.
We will clear the area of weeds on either side and pick up litter. Wear sturdy shoes and long sleeves and bring gloves, secateurs, shears and a trowel if you have them, although we will come with some equipment.
The hedge is between Priestnall allotments and the recreation field, on the lane that links Trentham Avenue (SK4 3QD) and Mersey Road. Everyone is welcome to pop along for as long as you wish. We have a coffee at about 11am, so that is a good time to meet some of us and have a chat. For more information contact info@slheatons.org
MONTHLY MEETINGS
The SLH monthly meetings are usually on the first Saturday of the month, but please check our website for up-to-date information. Contact info@slheatons.org if you would like to know more before you come, or would like to meet or talk to one of our team before arriving. We use the time to discuss and plan our activities, and have occasional guest speakers. Do come and meet us!
The next meeting will be on Saturday July 2nd 2022 from 10.30am to 12.00pm in the Willow room at The Heatons Centre, next to Heatons Library, Thornfield Rd, SK4 3LD. The entrance is at the side of the centre.
Hot drinks will be available.
We are grateful to Stockport Signpost for Carers for allowing us to use The Heatons Centre at a generous discount. Signpost for Carers (registered charity no: 1085727) owns and manages the use of the Heatons Centre. Surplus income generated from the use of this community space is used to support the wellbeing of those caring for friends and relatives across Stockport.
