Friends & Neighbors -

Our dear friend Secretary Norman Y. Mineta made his final homecoming back to San José this morning. Our friends at the Mineta Legacy Project have organized events to celebrate his life and offer us the opportunity to pay our final respects.

A motorcade made several significant stops along the route from the airport to City Hall where a brief ceremony was held.  The community and members of the public may visit the San José City Hall rotunda until 7 pm this evening to pay their respects.

The motorcade route made brief stops in San José’s historic Japan Town, including the San José Buddhist Church Betsuin, the Mineta family home, and the Wesley Methodist Church. A powerful moment was a stop at the railroad tracks, where the Minetas and hundreds of other San José residents of Japanese ancestry were forced, at gun point, onto trains taking them to prison camps early in World War II.

Our community will gather tomorrow, Thursday, June 16th, for a Celebration of Life of Secretary Mineta at the San José Civic auditorium from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Follow this link for more details and to RSVP.

The Board of Supervisors honored and celebrated Secretary Mineta's life and contributions to Santa Clara County and our entire nation. Click HERE to watch video from the meeting.
