Good morning PPRTA:

You guys are awesome! (In a world where the current mood is a bit gloomy, I thought I would start with a big cheer).

Annual Meeting

Let me start first with a very big thanks to all those who attended our Annual Meeting — the first in-person annual meeting in two years. Enormous thanks to Dr. K David Weidner, Executive Director of the Cape Cod Pilgrim Memorial Association — Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, who provided the venue for our meeting, and opened to our members the Pilgrim Monument and newly constructed inclined elevator.  Dr. Weidner, a former Part-Timer now Full-Time Provincetown resident, welcomed PPRTA and thanked us for our work.  We say thank you Dr. Weidner for being such a gracious host.

We also thank our guest speaker Donna Walker, Provincetown’s first Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.  Ms. Walker gave a terrific presentation on the challenges facing our new Director.  She fielded many questions from the audience and stated that “inclusion” included Part-Timers. Thank you Director Walker for that and we look forward to working with you and to the positive changes you will bring.

In addition, PPRTA Board Members Steve Fossella, Kim Keifer and Laura Rood were reappointed to the Board by unanimous vote for three years terms (2022-2025).

Last, the Annual President’s Report in summary: Membership is booming since PPRTA was founded in 2013 by Steve Fossella.  You all have been extremely generous with donations.  Our visibility is the highest it has ever been.  Your Board continues to seek a meaningful voice in Town decisions as local governance considers how to spend the over 83% of the residential property taxes paid by you.

Alert, Alert:

As was mentioned at the Annual Meeting, PPRTA’s mission is to educate, to advocate and to build community.  The following alert covers all three goals.

Educate:

The Local Comprehensive Planning Committee presented the Draft Local Comprehensive Plan (LCP) to the Select Board beginning the community engagement portion of the planning process in preparation for the Towns adoption of the final plan.

What the heck is this?  The LCP is the report of what the Town looks like now and what is the plan going forward.  The current draft plan is chock full of information including assessment of resources and issues as well as projections for the future.  Here is the Town website with a link to the draft 2022 plan

Advocate:

The LCP goes through an adoption process including comments from the public and an ultimate endorsement at an anticipated Special Town Meeting this Fall. You can submit comments/feedback to the Town Planner, Thaddeus J. Soule at tsoule@provincetown-ma.gov; or you can go old school — call Mr. Soule at 508-487-7000, ext. 553.  Comments/feedback must be provided no later than July 13.

Advocate and Build Community:

Or… you can attend an in-person community engagement meeting where the Comprehensive Planning Committee will present an overview of the plan and solicit feedback.

When:  This Saturday, June 18 at 3:00pm

Where:  The Provincetown Library  (Gotta love that library)

In person attendance allows not just an opportunity to share your feedback/comments but will let you meet/work together with your neighbors.  For sure, this report requires a moment (or many moments) of your time to review.  But what a great way to get a feel for the Town’s future.

Announcements:

1— Help Truro

Speaking of neighbors and working together, our Truro neighbors have asked for our help.  As was mentioned at the Annual Meeting, Truro Community Kitchen (TCK), who provides meals for those in need, are looking for folks to assist in preparing meals and/or to deliver meals to those who need a helping hand.

If interested, please call TCK at 973-868-7526 or email TCK at
trurocommunitykitchen@gmail.com.

2—To the Provincetown Brewing Company!

PPRTA is hosting “Homeowners’ Night” every Wednesday through the summer.

When: Wednesdays, @7pm – 9pm

Where:  The Provincetown Brewing Co. (141 Bradford Street)

Why:  Because it is fun. Meet your neighbors and make new friends.

That’s quite enough for now.
