The big news of this week is that Whitelock’s Ale House has had their listing upgraded to Grade II* status. This means it is now officially a “particularly important building of more than special interest”. I’m sure many of you reading this newsletter who have visited Whitelock’s have certainly felt this way after a pint or two anyway! |
|
I am working with the wonderful team at Whitelocks on an event or series of events where I will deep dive into the history of the pub. We are still working out the detail, so more news will follow soon. However, if you can’t wait, Whitelocks does feature on my Leeds Heritage Beer Tour, all 300+ years of it. |

In this week’s issue of Leeds Beer Shorts, Concept set to leave Leeds, Wilde Child’s Hedonistic Experience, Horsforth Brewery Beer Festival part 2, plus lots more. |

Welcome to new subscribers! This section is a news digest of happenings at Leeds-based breweries in the last 7 days. The newsletter is prepared on a Thursday, so any news that breweries release between the final draft and the email arriving in your inbox on a Friday, will be included in the next newsletter. If you want to find out more about a particular piece of news, click the word that is underlined and coloured blue. Finally, if you have seen some news online this week and it isn’t mentioned below, it means I have covered it in a previous issue, or there is not enough information for it to feature yet. If you would like to access a directory of Leeds-based breweries, there’s a link at the bottom of this newsletter. |

| We start this week with an update from Amity. And this update is right from the horses mouth as I’m with co-owners Russ and Rich today! I can reveal that there are three new collaboration beers on the way. First up is with fellow Leeds brewery, Nomadic Beers, which is set to be a mid-4% ABV hoppy pale. Following this is a collaboration with Attic (Birmingham), which will be called Top Five Soups (!) and a final collaboration with Thornbridge, however Russ is remaining very tight lipped on this. Coming up at Amity’s taproom is a whisky, beer and cheescake pairing evening, plus their Amityfest beer festival. This weekend you will find them pouring at the Nottingham Craft Beer Festival. |

| Leeds is set to be one brewery less shortly. As of last Friday, the brew kit at Concept (AKA Malt Brewhouse), Horsforth was all disconnected and ready to be moved to a new location near Riddlesden. The reason for the re-location is it is nearer to the Head Brewer’s home. Once everything is back up and running, the re-located brewery will still supply Leeds-based Concept Taverns. Credit goes to Nigel from Leeds CAMRA for this one. |

| Horsforth have announced they are running another beer festival. Hosted at their brewery taproom, this one will take place from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th August (Bank Holiday weekend). |

| Two of Leeds’ larger breweries have collaborated on a new Yorkshire Weisse beer. Kirkstall hosted Northern Monk to brew up this 4.5% ABV ale featuring Amarillo and Centennial hops. I have saved the best bit for last. It’s called Ee Bah Gumball. |

| Last week, Leeds celebrated 15 years with a rather extraordinary cake. Congratulations go to Sam, Michael, Rob and all the team. |

| New from North this week is Distant Call. This is a 6.5% ABV New England India Pale Ale made with Azacca, Sabro and Mosaic (yum yum!) hops. Joining that is a collaboration with Newbarns (Edinburgh). This is called Lager, is 4.2% ABV and brewed with heritage malts Hana, Chevalier and Chit, plus Ernest and Callista hops. |

| And, finally. There’s a new brew and a re-brew from Wilde Child. New is Hedonistic Experience, a sibling of Hedonistic Existence. This one is a 4.5% ABV milk chocolate Stout. Back after a two year absence is 7.4% ABV New England India Pale Ale, Righteous Indignation. |
