Dear MVCS Families,
This is the last Mensajero of SY21, so I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your support, collaboration, and involvement in this very unique school year. I hope you all get to rest, enjoy this summer, and to make sure that the kids come back to school refreshed and ready to learn. I would also like to offer some important reminders about our dual language program during the summer break.
Some of our students will be attending the ACPS Summer Language Academy. This program will be coordinated by Mr. David Stewart this year. Should you have any questions regarding the Academy, please feel free to email Mr. Stewart at david.stewart@acps.k12.va.us. Also, Ms. Hamilton, our ACPS Dual Language Program Coordinator has provided us with some useful resources to support dl students’ language development during the summer. You can find this information attached to this Mensajero.
Finally, as part of our efforts to resume community building practices that have historically supported our strong sense of community, our K-5 MVCS conductors will be expected to wear uniforms again in SY22. Research on the topic of school uniforms argues that this school-wide practice enhances school pride, unity, and community spirit. It also creates a level playing field among students by reducing peer pressure around daily clothing choices. Similarly, wearing school uniforms is a helpful strategy to increase student safety in and out of school. Please be advised that the MVCS school uniform will accommodate the students’ religious expression. Families will receive specific information about uniform guidelines with the Beginning Of the Year Package.
On behalf of the entire MVCS faculty and staff muchisimas gracias for working along with us to educate the 867 students who attended our school this academic year. In SY22, we are projected to have 880 students in our building. We are looking forward to your continued support!
Have a great summer and we will see you back on August 22nd during our first day of school.
Sincerely,
Liza Burrell-Aldana
Proudest Principal
