The YSCF Welcomes a New Development Director
Thoughtfully submitted by Ena Nearon
A little over twenty-five years ago, I left beautiful San Clemente, California to live in the small Midwestern town of Hebron, KY with my oldest daughter who was about to purchase her first home. I found my niche in the role of Executive Assistant to the Sr. VP of Community Development for what is now US Bank. It was an exhilarating experience that included working with field reps who enforced federal CRA guidelines, thus creating loan opportunities for diverse communities of small business people across multiple states. What I didn't know was that this exposure to the world of high finance with a focus on affordable small business loans was laying the foundation for my current role as Director of Development for the YS community Foundation. I embrace the continuity of this adventure with open arms.
My family has grown. My 2 daughters gave me 4 grandchildren each. Two of my granddaughters made me a great grandmother. My life was full when it took on yet another twist as I was asked to manage and coordinate a national fundraising effort to benefit people who lost much of their life savings during the economic recession that occurred prior to 9/11.
Always drawn to the creative mind and spirit, I went on to become the Senior Event Coordinator for the Cincinnati Art museum, and then to manage and curate the beautiful Women's Art Gallery in the downtown Cincinnati YWCA.
Discovering the unique spirit and natural beauty of Yellow Springs, Ohio, finding a supportive and solid team effort with YDCF, and working with otherwise "ordinary" people making surprising extraordinary donations to causes that they care about is my idea of the perfect blend of the ideal and the practical.
For this, I am thankful.
