Congratulations to all 4 winning teams, each of them will receive $25m Cancer Grand Challenges funding to take on some of the toughest challenges incancer research.
The CANCAN team will take on the Cachexia challenge.
The eDyNAmiC team will take on the Extrachromosomal DNA challenge.
The NexTGen team will take on the Solid Tumours in Children challenge.
The PROMINENT team will take on the Normal Phenotypes challenge
Seven UCL researchers are involved in Cancer Grand Challenges selected teams
Dr Martin Pule (UCL Cancer Institute) will co-lead the NexTGen team, which takes on the ‘Solid tumours in children’ challenge. He will be joined by UCL co-investigators Professor Karen Page (UCL Mathematics), Dr Karin Straathof (UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health), Professor Sergio Quezada and Dr Kevin Litchfield (both UCL Cancer Institute) and Professor Marc-Olivier Coppens (UCL Chemical Engineering). Call for project submissions - 2023 CRUK CoL Centre PhD and Clinical Training Fellow programme
Calls are open now for project proposals for the 2023 intake of the CoL Centre PhD and CRTF programmes. We anticipate recruiting up to six science graduates and three clinical research training fellows. Submission deadline for project proposals and expression of interest is 1 August 2022. We invite applications from supervisor teams formed by CoL Centre Faculty from different Centre partners. 'Striving for Evidence - With and Without a Randomised Controlled Trial'
Professor Tom Treasure, UCL
In this lecture, Professor Treasure will discuss his experiences of striving to get the evidence to stop a cancer operation that does not help patients and introducing an operation that does. Prof. Treasure will discuss the perpetuation of a flawed belief, using lung metastasectomy in colorectal cancer as an example. He will also illustrate that that not everything is amenable to, or indeed needs, a randomised trial, using Marfan Syndrome as an example. **Registration is Open**
