The Back Porch
A Note from our Pastors...
Dear LFPPC Church Family,

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "I know that love is ultimately the only answer to mankind's problems...". When I think of the hardships our country has seen in recent weeks--pandemic, mass shootings, racial injustice, and more, I find comfort knowing that our God is Love and is at work bringing about the Kingdom that we all long for. This Sunday, I hope you will join us for worship as we reflect on our God who pours out unconditional love and grace despite our failings.

Blessings,
Pastor Laura

Sermon Series
We are continuing in our "Back to Basics" summer sermon series as we take a look at the essentials of faith from the reformed tradition. This week, Pastor Laura will be preaching on salvation by grace through faith.
Katrina (Carol Young's Daughter) won the Silver in Budapest!
Here is an article that talks about her too: https://sports.yahoo.com/delaney-schnell-katrina-young-match-155717669.html
Fall Preview
Good Things Are Coming This Fall! Stay Tuned For...
  • The return of Sunday Morning Adult Education led by a FABULOUS team of volunteers
  • Godly Play---an outstanding montessori-based formation program for young kids aged 4 to 7.
  • A new sermon series based on Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown. You can prepare by watching her special on HBO. We are pouring our hearts into this one--no pun intended.
Volunteers Wanted
  • Wakefest - This event could use a few more volunteers, particularly work crew. Also, they could benefit from loaned wake boards/wake surf boards if you have one to share. Contact Kim at kim@lfppc.org.
  • Musicians-- Particularly those with piano or guitar experience though other instruments welcome. See Jaime Henning for more information. We have an urgent need for summer help as folks take vacation.
  • Hospitality-- Seeking extra hands for serving coffee or assisting with the occasional fellowship event such as our upcoming BBQ.
  • Sound-- We always need more volunteers to be trained to help with Sunday worship sound as well as the occasional funeral or special event.
  • All-Church Summer BBQ 8/7-- We need a few hands to help pull off our summer BBQ after worship. Willing to go shopping? Set up? Clean up? Work a grill? Let Pastor Laura know. Thanks!
  • Fall Fellowship Event--We are looking for 3-5 folks willing to help plan a special one-off fall all-church event. See Pastor Laura for more info.

June Session Highlights
  • Session opened with prayer and received a pastor's report and a clerk's report and the May 10th minutes were ratified.
  • Session had a lengthy discussion about pastoral roles and responsibilities, children's ministry, congregational care needs and more. They decided more discussion was needed and so an additional discussion-only meeting was set for July 14th and then our regular meeting will happen via zoom on July 19th with a focus on the 2022-2023 budget.

Love Your Neighbor
Pantry in the Park
Our little free pantry on Brookside Blvd is getting some action! Please remember our community pantry on your grocery trips and help us keep it stocked with healthy, shelf-stable foods. Your generosity blesses our neighborhood!

Pepitas Preschool
Pepitas Bilingual Preschool is wrapping up their school year! After a year on pause for quarantine, the preschool reopened this past September with 50 students and 9 staff. While there were some big challenges to overcome with covid protocols and ongoing wellness issues, we were able to build community, create lasting relationships, and learn together. We are grateful! As we look forward to next year, we have a opportunities for growth to serve our community as we offer two 3s classes, a 4s class, 2 pre-k classes and a kindergarten class. We appreciate your support so much and we continue to learn and love God by playing, exploring and creating. For more information about the school, visit www.pepitaspreschool.com
Attention Gardeners!
We are blessed with many avid gardeners in our congregation. Let's share from the abundance of our summer vegetable gardens. Leave your contribution at the Welcome Center or take freely what looks yummy to you. Enjoy!
Covid19 Guidance
Masking
Masks are optional but encouraged in our building with the exception of our Pepitas Preschool space where they are required. A mask-only and distanced worship space is available in fellowship hall where the worship service is available on the screen for those who desire a higher-precaution worship space. Note: Following worship un-masked congregants from the Sanctuary may come downstairs for coffee and fellowship.

Summer Surge
Please monitor your symptoms and join us online if you are sick or have been exposed. If traveling this summer, consider letting a few days pass before you re-enter our campus to help reduce potential exposure to our staff and volunteers. **We have had a significant uptick of Covid19 positive congregation members in the last few weeks so please remain vigilant**
