September 1, 2022
featuring Mark Wingfield

July 12, 2022

Dear << <<First Name>> >>,

We eagerly anticipate our September 1st Embracing the Journey Speaker Series featuring Mark Wingfield, Executive Director and Publisher of Baptist News Global. Previously Mark served as Executive Pastor for 17 years in a large Baptist church in Texas. Mark’s talk will be highly informative as he shares “What I Have Learned as A Pastor and Ally of The LGBTQ Community.” Mark says, “Six years ago, I knew there were many things I didn’t know about LGBTQ Christians. But I didn’t know what I didn’t know. After playing a key role in leading our large Baptist church to become fully inclusive, I’m still learning things I didn’t even know to ask. I’m learning through friendships and conversations, and life experiences that were not possible before. One of the biggest lessons is that LGBTQ Christians are about much more than sex. The church has been obsessed with talking about sex, but that’s not the main thing. We need to have better conversations about relationships and community and identity and advocacy and education. And I’m learning that there are so many different kinds of people in the LGBTQ community who defy our cultural stereotypes.”
