July 2022
President's Message

Happy July everyone!

In case you may not know, the month of July is the month we select the future leadership of the Chapter.  Back on July 1st, an email went out to all registered members to cast their vote for each of the open positions on the WI ASLA Board of Directors.  If you have not had a chance to review and submit your ballot, please do so by July 30th.

I want to remind everyone that currently the position of President-elect remains vacant.  If you or anyone you know is interested in the position, please reach out to me directly for more information.  It is a great opportunity to expand your personal and professional network nationally.  WI ASLA is also one of the few Chapters that reimburses the acting President and President-elect for traveling to the annual Conference on Landscape Architecture.  That essentially equates to a fully funded trip to the largest gathering of landscape architects in the world!  Again, please reach out if you are interested.

With that, I hope everyone is enjoying as much time outside as they can and stay tuned for some exciting event announcements coming soon.

Until next time,

Alexander Thill, ASLA
Wisconsin Chapter President

ASLA Virtual Advocacy Day 2022

Thursday, September 29, 2022

Training: July 20, 2022

This year, ASLA will host a virtual advocacy day on Thursday, September 29, 2022. ASLA is excited about this new date, as we have learned that it could lead to more student availability. Each chapter may have up to 3 participants attend virtual meetings with their federal legislators and/or congressional staff. Chapters may determine their 3 participants. The government affairs team recommends including your Advocacy Chair/Government Affairs Contact, a student member, and/or an emerging professional. Chapters representing more than one state may want to select participants to ensure representation in all states. All participants MUST be current members of ASLA.

Whether participants are new to federal advocacy days or a seasoned veteran - not to worry - ASLA will provide targeted training on federal policy issues and on the art of grassroots persuasion. From training videos, to issue briefs, to virtual training sessions, ASLA Advocacy Day participants will be well-prepared to talk about solving problems using landscape architecture with policy makers on Capitol Hill.

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 20 @ 3:00 PM ET for a Q&A Zoom meeting with ASLA’s Government Affairs team to get more details, information, and best practices to help you get gear up for an exciting advocacy day in September.

IF ANY WI ASLA MEMBERS ARE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING, PLEASE REACH OUT TO ADMIN@WIASLA.COM AND WE CAN GET YOU SIGNED UP.
