Letter from the President
Dearest San Diego Peace Corps Association,
Welp, it’s finally happened. After 8 years on the board, mostly as Secretary, I finally agreed to be the President. I value this community so much! Your friendship and our community have been a true gift, always, but especially these last few years!
I feel very lucky to be a part of a community who care deeply about the World at large, our shared region, and our small group of like-minded souls who come together each month to share. We share food - and celebrate the diversity of our region and cultures of the world. We share volunteering - giving back to our larger community and a world that has given us all so much. We share adventures, camping and kayaking, hiking and wine tasting - celebrating the natural world and the simple pleasure of time spent in community. All this sharing helps us live our shared mission of bringing the world home. We work together to educate, inspire and continue to give back. I only hope that we get to do all of these things together in the coming year, perhaps entirely without interruption for the first time in a long time!
With Peace Corps Volunteers already returning to the field I am looking forward to our fundraising efforts going to support actively serving PCVs in the field again. Personally, this means I’m also looking forward to big turn-outs at our fundraising events, the holiday party in December and the Taste the World event next Spring.
Already in June, we had a kayaking adventure and our Book Club enjoyed a real live meet-up! Taste the World/The Annual Meeting was a hit in May! It was great seeing so many people come out to eat, visit, enjoy the sunshine and support both the SDPCA and Make Kitchen. We raised enough money to make a $1,000 donation to RPCV Alliance for Ukraine. Good job community!
In July, I am looking forward to Yoga at the Beach with new board member, Erin, and Happy Hour with our wonderful CEO Genny and new board member Laura - pure social fun! See you all soon!
