Chateau de Nalys

2018 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

Dating back to the 16th Century, Chateau de Nalys is one of the oldest estates in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. In 2017, it was acquired by the Guigal family, who have gone to great pains to maximise its potential to produce world-class wines. This is starting to show dividends.

Rhone wine critic, Jeb Dunnuck awarded the 2018 Nalys Chateauneuf Blanc his highest rating of the vintage, eclipsing even the legendary Beaucastel Roussanne Vieilles Vignes, which sells for more than twice the price. This is one to pick up now, whilst it's under the radar.

I’d put the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Grand Vin Blanc up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. This awesome white boasts a medium gold hue as well as a mineral-laced bouquet of white peach, quince, white flowers, orange blossom, and honeysuckle. With full-bodied richness, incredible purity, and flawless balance, it’s well worth seeking out and should have a good decade or more of prime drinking. 2022-2032

Blend: 43% Roussanne, 33% Grenache blanc, 15% Clairette, 6 % Bourboulenc, 3% Piquepoul.

Average age of vines: 45 years

The Chateau de Nalys Chateauneuf-du-Pape Grand Vin Blanc is made from an equal blend of grapes from the three Nalys plots, “la Crau”, “le Bois Sénéchal” and “Nalys”, with the blend dominated by Rousanne, supported by Grenache and Clairette, and underlined by the freshness from Bourboulenc and Piquepoul. Two-thirds of the wine is aged in oak, bringing a density and complexity to the wine.
