The Seventy-Something Club meeting tomorrow, June 7, 2022, will be online only from 5-7 pm.

Here is the original article about this group, in case you missed it in last week's update:

The Seventy-Something Club

You and I probably didn’t want to join it, but somehow we got admitted without application.

In many ways, you also may feel a continuity of personhood, in other ways— well, things just feel different. You are navigating uncharted waters towards destinations unknown. This summer and fall, we will be piloting various opportunities to connect to discuss personal issues that arise as we exceed our biblically allotted three score years and ten.

It’s been a rough patch since we went all virtual all time beginning in March 2020. For me, it’s actually been a time of empowerment. That first year I thrust myself into candidacy as a Commissioned Lay Minister. Among the activities I took on were hosting “Tea with Melissa T,” on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 4. As the church calendar began to overflow with activities in other time slots, we officially cut Teatime to Tuesdays. The Thursday-Saturday tradition continued for some, mostly retired people.

As we emerge from domestic captivity, we face new challenges: our spirits are ever willing, our flesh is another matter. I tentatively propose to host small gatherings at my house on alternate Thursdays from 5-7 pm on themes of navigating the aging process. My living room will accommodate a small group of 6-8. It is fully accessible, air conditioned, and not far from UUYO (2219 Coronado Avenue).

As the theme song to the iconic “happy hour “ show, Cheers went, “Sometimes you really want to go where everybody knows your name.” If you give me a call at 330-398-1157, I will know it (I might already recognize your voice!
Remember that you are loved and never truly alone.
Melissa Smith
