We are devastated by the senseless tragedy on July 4th. We are holding the seven people who lost their lives, their loved ones, and all those affected by this tragedy in our hearts.

Below we offer resources on how to talk with children about tragic events and how you can support the Highland Park community.

Parent Resources

It currently feels scary and overwhelming as parents and caregivers of young children. How do we address these traumatic events with them? What do we say? How do we comfort them? The Family Institute at Northwestern offers a list of resources that may be helpful. Also, if you would like to support the Highland Park community NPR has compiled a list of ways to help.

Summer Play Dates

The SLC Parent Committee's hope for this upcoming school year is to build back SLC's sense of community (the pandemic really put our community on pause!). Their first effort is to organize two summer playdates per classroom. Be on the look out this week for an email from your child's room parent with more details. You can find the Room Parent list here.

Important Paperwork

At the end of July families will receive a summer mailing packet with important information about the upcoming school year. In the meantime please download, complete the fillable Emergency Release Form and Family & Child Information Form and email them to Chrissy Prieto at your earliest convenience.

New Babies!

And last but not least, some happy news! Congratulations to the Goswami family; Laura, Sharad and Aarya, on the birth of their daughter Diya! Diya was born on June 24th and big brother Aarya will be in the Yellow 4s this year. To help support them during this transition a mealtrain has been organized.

AND...the Elliott Family

Congratulations on the birth of their daughter Sadie Jade on July 10th! Jaime, Grant and big sibs; Nolan, Ryan and Skylar are so happy! Skylar will be in the Rainbow 2s and Ryan will be in the Yellow 4s this year. Mealtrain coming soon.

Summer Camp Success!

We can't believe our 6 week camp is coming to a close next week! The Building Blocks to Kindergarten, On-site group and Beach Camp groups have had fun making new friends, spending time outside, and learning through play! The beautiful weather this summer has been wonderful. We'll miss all our campers!
